Mine was Prince Caspian.
And my most recent was the King of the Gyptians in The Dark Materials.
Show how I've changed. It used to be a boy King. Now it's a fatherly type.

Unfortunately all my Antonia Forest books were the paperbacks, and time hasn't been kind to them... the glue had gone, so I reread them page by page and had to throw them - but I have most of the Wells books in the original hardbacks

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:46

jeee - I know, exactly. I could reread so many of these books, still go back to Antonia Forest now and again. Even got some from out of print booksellers. Can't wait for DD to be old enough for Sadlers Wells. (The books, obviously, as her ballet classes indicate she's not going to be the next Veronica Weston.)

Libra · 28/01/2009 12:45

Precisely!!
Which is why Mark is better.

Good luck with the job application.

I am supposed to be writing a lecture on body image and the media.
Nearly typed the words 'bit of rough' on to the Powerpoint slides a moment ago.

dingdong05 · 28/01/2009 12:45

I think it was Heathcliff for me, it was all the soaring PASSION! I skipped over the fact that he was mental at the time

Have to say that I get the whole Sam Vimes thing though Captain Carrot just hasn't been "fleshed out" quite enough to get the heart racing lol

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:44

I get the bit of rough, but he was such a forelock-tugging wetty, really, wasn't he?

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:43

I'm supposed to be writing a job application today - not getting very far with it!

Libra · 28/01/2009 12:42

Dick was a bit of rough.

What's not to get?

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:41

It's brilliant to find people who've obviously read exactly the same books as you

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:40

Libra - at least she kept it in the family and didn't stray further afield, thus depriving local lasses of the other few available men.

I still don't get the Dick thing, though (just like in RL, ho ho) - must have been the lure of the stables and all that straw ...

bronze · 28/01/2009 12:40

See I don't remember him being like that but people have mentioned something to do with Patience whereas I only remember Guy doing his mountain rescue and the river crossing bit with Jane.

Ohh Ive just remembered the tall silent Scot

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:37

I hated Guy - slapping the girls to show who was boss. Frankly, I preferred Nigel to him.

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:36

(Hurray, I'm not the threadkiller I thought I was)

Yes, jeee, Patrick from the Antonia Forest books, which I still love. Not as sexy and masterful as some of the others (and he was the only boy around, so no odious comparisons) but I'd certainly have gone a few rounds with him. Think it has something to do with him snogging the au pair!

bronze · 28/01/2009 12:36

Scarily I'm in the middle of rereading the thuggery affair and thinking that Patricks a nice young man.

Were there any really bad Sadlers wells males apart from Nigel of course and I blame his mum for him.
They may have been worse later on I got a bit fed up of them after the first 10 or so.

Libra · 28/01/2009 12:35

Yes CJCregg. You are right - she ends up with Mark, which means that she REALLY wanted to be with him right from the beginning.

Just like me.

Of course, she had to sleep with Will and Dick as well, just to try them out first. Completely messing with statistics for the likelihood of women getting married just after the First World War.

Was this girl a good role model for impressionable teenagers?

pagwatch · 28/01/2009 12:32

Gilbert Blyth of course

But weirdly I did rather fancy Scott from Thunderbirds

  • how sad is that?
jeee · 28/01/2009 12:32

Patrick was a bit... sensitive. Well, wimpy, really (we are talking about the one in the Autumn Term books here?)

seeker · 28/01/2009 12:30

My dd is seriously in love with Patrick!

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:29

I'd forgotten Sebastion and Francis. I adored them both. And who was the one who married Ella? The vicar's son? He was the sort you'd actually want to marry.

CJCregg · 28/01/2009 12:25

Oh, oh, oh ... suddenly I am nine years old again, the world is full of hope and romance and dark, gorgeous troubled men to aspire to.

Libra, you're not alone. Quite liked Will but secretly thought he was a bit of a wimp and was thrilled when Christina finally got it together with Mark in the end. Dick - wtf?

G Blythe, obviously.

Sebastian from the Wells books. Oh My God.

And Francis Babington!

Anyone join me in a crush on Patrick the Marlows' next door neighbour?

THANK YOU for starting this thread.

slug · 28/01/2009 12:16

Harriet the Spy

Libra · 28/01/2009 12:14

OK. I AM the only one who liked the cruel sadistic one in Flambards.

Mind you, she had them all by the end of the series didn't she?

He was just so masterful....

jeee · 28/01/2009 12:10

Bryony (a fairy) in Annabel and Bryony. Which no-one has ever heard of.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 28/01/2009 12:08

The Scarlet Pimpernel

DreamingAboutSleep · 27/01/2009 22:38

I am very new to the world of MN but had to come in as I had totally forgotten about my huge crush on Julian from the FF and on Danny's (Champion of the World's) Dad!

I think my first love though was (rather predictably)with Mr Darcy from P&P!
