An MN library style thing idea here, shoot me down in flames if not suitable!

My mum reads about 6 new release paperbacks a weeka dn gives them to me, I read and then send to second hand shops
What I thought was for the price of 2nd class postage (about 80p for paperback) I could send on to a Mn'er who wanted it, they then could advertise on the book title thread when they had read it and could send it on, I know Tescos sell them for £3.73 which is cheap and a library is free, but would anyone be up for this?
I have HUGE list of titles, good stuff to set up with and anyone coould donate?
Whaddya think
Am off to bed now but will look tomorrow and see what people think?

wonderful you! Thanks

SaintGeorge · 12/05/2005 17:16

Email a list of any books you have available for loan to me Mars.

Need Author, Title, brief blurb on book if possible, Genre. Also paperback/hardback would be useful so I can estimate postage costs.

As soon as Tech has the database finished I will set to work loading all the books in and sorting out labels for all of the donations.

Miaou · 12/05/2005 17:14

Marslady, see bensmum3's question and Saint George's answer of 8th May - that puts it in a nutshell.

MarsLady · 12/05/2005 17:12

I tried to read through this thread but I have a wiggling DT on my lap.

Could you let me know what to do coz I wanna join in too please? I've got lots of books and if I know that my books will eventually return to me then brill. Also, DH will be glad that I'm not spending a fortune in the local bookshop.

Thankyou, I'm away today until saturday, so will get a list sorted as soon as I get back.

SaintGeorge · 08/05/2005 21:21

bensmum - yes

Tech is currently working on a database for the library, hopefully ready in a couple of weeks. Labels will also be available shortly.

To save you scrolling down again my email address is antlxstew @ yahoo.co.uk (remove spaces)

bensmum3 · 08/05/2005 18:55

I don't have the patience to read the whole thread, but am I right in thinking that I can send a list of books I'm willing to loan, to SG, she will send me some labels for those books and there will be list of books available to borrow on MN ?

SaintGeorge · 06/05/2005 14:20

Sorry bran, missed this yesterday. Yes, Excel spreadsheet is fine

bran · 05/05/2005 15:20

Would an excel spreadsheet with the same headings as the Yahoo thingy be an ok format for me to send my book details? I'll get started on it today, but I can only do it while Branboy is sleeping so it'll probably be early next week before I have enough to be worth sending.

SaintGeorge · 04/05/2005 19:26

Yes please to lists of books. Anyone who wants to join the yahoo group to see what the format is like, feel free but please dont enter any more books to the database - just send details straight to me.

Thanks all.

lilibet · 04/05/2005 19:13

so do you want a list of our books St george?

lunavix · 04/05/2005 19:10

I want to join!

I'll join the yahoo group asap

SaintGeorge · 28/04/2005 20:11

Keep in mind that I will keep a record of the original owners so all books can be returned if anyone gets a hankering for them to come home. Think of it more as an extended holiday, rather than leaving for good

Miaou · 28/04/2005 19:57

Fabbo, SG - well done for getting it sorted so far! Will get a list of books together for you when I have collaborated with dh on what he is prepared to let go

SaintGeorge · 28/04/2005 19:43

Feel free to send my the details Munchkinola. If I can collate a lot of the info in advance of Tech getting the database up and running, then I will be able to get straight on with entering it all when he is ready.

Munchkinola · 28/04/2005 19:27

Cool well done to you both. I have a couple more to add but I will wait till it's up and running on here

SaintGeorge · 28/04/2005 14:27

It was piffle's idea, I just ran with it. Emailed MN HQ last week because I designed a book label using the MN logo and wanted permission to use it and the result was the library on here instead.

Yayyyyyyy. I seriously have to clear my book shelves now.

piffle · 28/04/2005 14:07

yes I'll be a librarian!
Thx to you St George for getting this up and running!!!
Yiipppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

and three cheers for St george [cheering emoticon]

SaintGeorge · 28/04/2005 14:03

Oh and can I just add...

We're getting a library..we're getting a library.
Three cheers for Tech and Mumsnet HQ

SaintGeorge · 28/04/2005 14:01

Hi all.

Until Tech gets back to us with details of when and how the database will run we can't really go much further with this.

I am happy to collate all info in the meantime and have downloaded the books already on the yahoo site ready for transfer to here.

I don't think there is much point in continuing the Yahoo group or putting any more books on there, but if anyone wants to send me details of book contributions I will start organising the data for when Tech is ready.

piffle - do you want to be a librarian? I think if this takes off I am really going to need some help

lilibet - have approved you to the Yahoo group
rosiegif - by all means join the Yahoo group but there won't be much ongoing activity.

You can both look on there what sort of info we need for book contributions. Don't add any though - email details to me instead please.

email for those who don't know it yet antlxstew @ yahoo.co.uk (remove spaces)

rosiegif · 28/04/2005 12:59

Is it worth me signing up with Yahoo if the library is going to be moved to this site?
