Need a really good audio-book

The last couple of audiobooks I have enjoyed were: - The Names by Florence Knapp and read by Dervla Kirwan - Dream Count, written and read by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. - American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins, read by Yareli Arizmendi I want something along these lines - a gentle female voice quietly telling a compelling story about women.

I'm currently listening to The Vanishing of Margaret Small. It's about a woman with learning difficulties, in her 70s now but looking back at her life spent in a hospital. It's fascinating to hear about the different attitudes in society in the 50s, 60s & 70s, but also heartbreaking to hear how people, but women in particular, were treated.

I've just finished listening to this on your recommendation and absolutely loved it.

I have listened to and loved all your original list. The Correspondent by Virginia Evans is excellent and beautifully narrated on audible.

Tom Lake by Ann Patchett - read by Meryl Streep - it’s about a young girl that becomes an actress for a while but her life takes a different course - so it’s quite fitting to be read by Streep. It was so good I’ve listened to it twice!

This is good to know, I’m about to start the paperback!

Braiding Sweetgrass written and read by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Beautiful, interesting and she has a great voice, talks me to sleep every night

I have just looked and most of Clare Chambers’ books are on audible and they are all excellent and women centred stories.

Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway is gorgeous on audiobook. I wish Joanna Lumley had recorded it. That would be my dream team - Woolf and Lumley united.

I also love Iris Murdoch.

The Secret History is great. I've read the book many times too. Donna Tartt reads it and really brings the characters to life.

I recently listened to Whiteout by R S Burnett, the main character is female and it’s gripping to listen to. I normally struggle with getting into audiobooks but this one works.
