Read What You Own 2026

I’ve managed to finish two books (The Summer Queen by Elizabeth Chadwick and The Pearl by John Steinbeck) full reviews on the 50 bookers thread. I also did another sweep through of my Kindle TBR Mountain and with everything I’ve read, DNF and DNS I’m down from 1207 to 979!

Finished The Road to Lichfield - Penelope Lively which I bought in May 2024. Review on 50B thread.

Just finished Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster on the Edge of Space by Adam Higginbotham which was an excellent, if difficult read. Full review on the 50 bookers thread.

@SheilaFentiman The Sunne in Splendour is one of my favourite books. I love her Welsh trilogy as well, plus her Simon de Montfort trilogy. Less keen on the others, but she is a brilliant historical writer.

@SilverShadowNight- I have all her books (except the most recent) and although you know there will be a happy ending, I do enjoy the journey and like the fact that they are not particularly modern. They are easy reading between more challenging books!

I have now read From London with Love - Katie Fforde which was a present end of last year. Will put review on 50B thread.

Everyone still doing well - I’m still plodding through The Children’s Book and planning to scour my to be read pile for anything short and snappy for my next few reads so hopefully I can make more progress! I’m not not enjoying it, I just don’t seem to manage more than a few pages at a time.

Just catching up on the chat. @SnowFrogJelly I read In Memorium as part of RWYO and I loved it too.

I have finished The Sunne In Splendour, which I bought in 2012, and which is 900 odd pages long. And it was brilliant.

Just finished Someone Else’s Shoes by JoJo Moyes and enjoyed it more than I expected

Just finished The Rabbit Queen by Dexter Palmer, a retelling of an eighteenth century ‘medical mystery’.

Have just enjoyed and finished Anthony Horowitz, Close to Death. I’ve enjoyed all of the Hawthorne and Horowitz series so far.

I’ve also got several Angela Marsons on my TBR pile, but have just started The Postscript Murders by Elly Griffiths.

You are all doing so well! I have read some of the Angela Marsons books I already have. However,I signed up to Netgalley and I am currently reading The Golden Hours by Louisa Young..following on from the original Cazalet Chronicles.( think due out in sept).

Just finished In Memoriam by Alice Winn.. absolutely loved it

Have not done very well with RWYO so far in May but have just finished two more short novels after reading some library books - The Great Gatsby and Greek Lessons by Han Kang. I also listened to Schindlers Ark. I am aiming to get back to RWYO for the rest of the month.

Just finished Broken Pots, Mending Lives by Richard Osgood, a fascinating account of the work of Operation Nightingale, set up to help the recovery of armed forces personnel by involving them in archaeology. Review on 50B at some point.

I have finished Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez

I forgot to log Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen - altbough that is really a re-re-re-read as I’m n my third copy. I’m currently reading Mansfield Park @TimeforaGandTalthough that won’t count as I’ve just bought a new copy (also my third).

I love my Kindle - it stops me skipping ahead in books and - unlike a bookcase - it takes up minimal space and doesnt require dusting. I also don’t run out of books any more. All of this compensates for not being as comfortable to read as a real book, although I still prefer real books for cookery books and other manuals.
