Harry Potter - the full-cast Audible edition

Has anyone started this yet? The first book was just released today.

I'm only a couple of chapters in, and I really want to love it, but I'm not blown away so far. The narrator is good; I do like her voice - it's a nice and soothing voice. I really like the cast voices, but their voices are too quiet and sometimes quite tinny sounding. The sound effects can be really distracting, and too loud - it's quite hard to hear the cast voices over them. I'm hoping it improves!

I am fine with grumpy Harry so far, I read him as fed up and grumpy when I read the books, so it works for me. Also used to grumpy teen boys!

I'm really pleased I've invested in them! Overall, I've thoroughly enjoyed the series!

I’ve just listened to the chapter where Harry walks to (what he thinks will be) his death. I hadn’t really appreciated before how beautifully written it is- Cush Jumbo’s gorgeous soft voice really emphasises the quality of the writing.

Finished! I really enjoyed it, and some of the scenes were so much more emotional than they were in the Stephen Fry versions due to the full cast. The Dobby scene, Snape's pensieve memories, Harry and Dumbledore at Kings Cross, the grief when people thought Harry was dead.

I kind-of get what PP means about Harry's voice. It's less a whine to me, and more an arsey/frustrated tone. It was particularly noticeable when he was having conversations with Ron and Hermione, and they had a nice and pleasant tone but Harry always seemed to sound stroppy. I decided to let him off because he had the pressure of defeating Voldemort to deal with, and like a PP said, I imagine he'd much rather have been trying to get his leg over.

I'll enjoy going back and listening to them all back to back at some point.

That did make me laugh thank you!

I realise it is a 'me' issue. The production team were obviously happy with his whine, maybe others don't hear it, maybe Harry is meant to be unlikeable - but that certainly isn't how Stephen Fry portrayed Harry, or how Dumbledoor describes him.

Haven’t started this one yet. Gone back and working my way back through OOP.

I tend to see the film characters in my head. Except Dumbledore. Then I just see Lord Percy.

Ah I didn’t even realise it was AMM. Some of the other voices (particularly mrs Weasley and Trelawney) I just see the actor in my head rather than the character

I like Rita Skeeter, she annoys me, but she's clearly meant to.

The scene between Harry and Dumbledore at kings cross is excellent.

I think Hermione sounds too old sometimes.

I'm not ready for the Dobby scene, I had to stop listening when I was driving before Hedwig.

I am still very disappointed in Harry, he overacts and whines and doesn't convey what the narrator says. But on the whole I am enjoying it.

I always thought it was a shame that Dudley trying to thank Harry was missed in the films.

Well the Dobby scene just about broke me!

I've got about 4 hours listening left. I've really loved this one - they've done such a great job with it. I'm not keen on Bellatrix - she talks way too slowly and isn't menacing enough - but otherwise its been terrific.

How's everyone else getting on with it?

I am still early on in Order of the Phoenix!
enjoying eking it out.

Not enjoying OOP as much, so far, as Goblet of Fire & Azkaban.

It doesn’t track that Harry’s friends didn’t bring up Umbridge’s torturing Harry with McGonnegal. An uncomfortable self harm angle to that part of the plot. Safeguarding at Hogwarts is poor!

Dislike Kiera Knightly’s voice as Umbridge, so far. Quite like her in most things on screen but her voice sounds too young for the character and recognisable as her. It’d work if the character was younger.

Mine was here when I checked earlier but it was glitchy - jumping. I just tried again and it seems to have resolved itself. There just be a lot of pre-orders!

edited t say googled it and there is a reddit post about it-apparently being released in tranches-and to keep trying.
