50 Bookers 2025 Meet Up

MamaNewtNewt · 27/03/2025 12:44

Just setting up a chat to firm up plans for a Southern meet up and a Northern meet up.

Lets see who is interested, then firm up locations and dates.

I know there are a few of us who want to come but might not be able to make it, so no judgement at all for those who decide nearer the time that they can’t make it. Hope to meet some of you this year!

This has picked up while I’ve been working! I definitely have a mental image of each of you, which is very probably completely wrong.

@AgualusasLoverif you don’t mind organising the Southern meet-up again (I think you did it last year didn’t you?) that would be great.

Meet up location; Remus’s corner, everyone!

Bring books. And cake.

You havent killed the thread, I’m lurking on it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/03/2025 21:32

Oh god - and now my stupid head and stupid gob seem to have killed the thread as well.

Sorry. I’ll go and stand in the corner.

I reached the grand height of 5’2 aged 12 and have stayed there ever since.

I’m much better at writing than talking - although I can be articulate on a subject of special interest (luckily books are one), I can also be stunned into near selective mutism with social crowds or new people.

And no hat? My head has failed us!

Well, you sound lovely. I'm sorry you find crowds/new people so horribly stressful. I go shy or gobby - neither is ideal.

CornishLizard · 27/03/2025 19:56

I really enjoyed the London meet-up last year and would love to come to another gathering. Am not a social butterfly unfortunately but everyone was very kind and friendly.

AgualusasLover · 27/03/2025 19:44

So pleased to be doing this again. I’m London based so happy to try and coordinate that.

I will also date/train cost pending come along to the Northern one if I can.

I really had such a lovely time at both last year.

In my head, you are delightfully articulate company, very tall, in a long skirt and a floppy velvet hat. I have absolutely no idea why my head did that to you, but I hope you understand I mean it as a wonderful compliment, in a sort of Jenny Joseph 'I shall wear purple'-esque way.

I think before we meet up we should all say what we think other 50bookers will be like and see how wrong we are.

Or maybe not. You might all think I'm a twat and then realise it's true Grin

This really made me giggle.

buckeejit · 27/03/2025 19:09

I’m over in NI but would love a bookish meetup. Family in Skipton so Leeds would be good or Manchester where I could visit friends. Will keep an eye where you end up 😁

Obviously that’s a pretty limited window so I’m not expecting you to work to that!

I’m also a social oddity but willing to meet if you’ll have me!

I don’t live in the UK any more but will be in North Wales for about 10 days in late September - so could do a Manchester (or Liverpool/Chester etc) meet up then.

I could potentially do London, Liverpool or Manchester if on a Saturday or the summer holidays.

InALonelyWorld · 27/03/2025 17:59

I'm interested in this. I'm NE, so north would be best for me

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 27/03/2025 17:50

I loved it. Hoping it will work out dates and cost wise 🤞

highlandcoo · 27/03/2025 17:48

North is closer for me but London might also be possible depending on dates. I managed both last year!
To anyone who fancies coming along but is feeling anxious or hesitant, just to say that it was very friendly and relaxed, as Fuzzy says. And it was really nice to put faces to names 😊

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 27/03/2025 17:16

I had a really lovely afternoon at last year's Manchester meet-up. North/Midlands is generally good for me. Depending on the dates I might also be able to get to a London meet-up.

Stowickthevast · 27/03/2025 15:01

Thanks @MamaNewtNewt for the thread . I'm one for London, unlikely to go too far from home as tend to be quite busy at weekends.

bibliomania · 27/03/2025 14:04

Sounds like a plan, @MamaNewtNewt and thanks for volunteering!

I could probably do any of those cities, although Liverpool would be the most difficult. I can help with local knowledge if it's in York.

TimeforaGandT · 27/03/2025 13:57

If dates work then I will come to Southern meet up as enjoyed last year's.

MamaNewtNewt · 27/03/2025 13:47

bibliomania · 27/03/2025 13:43

I'm interested - enjoyed last year's in Manchester. North probably easier for me but wouldn't rule out south.

Those thinking northern - is there a suggested location?

Shall we see who wants to attend and then vote on the best location out of the main cities (Sheffield / Leeds / York / Liverpool / Manchester / Durham / Newcastle / Other) and dates.
