50 Bookers 2025 Meet Up

MamaNewtNewt · 27/03/2025 12:44

Just setting up a chat to firm up plans for a Southern meet up and a Northern meet up.

Lets see who is interested, then firm up locations and dates.

I know there are a few of us who want to come but might not be able to make it, so no judgement at all for those who decide nearer the time that they can’t make it. Hope to meet some of you this year!

Have a super lunch

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 31/03/2025 14:38

Have a lovely time! 📚☕️🍰

I know this is very short notice, but in addition to more organised meet up plans, @highlandcoo and I are planning a mini-meetup near Finsbury Park tomorrow (Tuesday 1 April). Anyone who can make plans to join us is very welcome to PM me and/or @highlandcoo for details and to let us know you're coming - I think our plans include a snacky lunch, a shop offering lots of tempting new books (including Women's Prize and other award related displays, and several charity shops including a charity bookshop).

I'm hoping to come to at least one of the big meet-ups and would also be up for other mini meetups ones for others living in/near London or visiting with time to spare.

Ooh, my memories of York are that it was a fabulous place for bookworms to explore. My mum worked at the university through my childhood - a 40 mile commute - and we occasionally went into town to visit the shops there. My dad moved to Australia when I was 18 to take up an academic post, but at some point on a return visit, took me on a day out to York to trawl the secondhand bookshops and bought me a very large amount of them. This must have been over 30 years ago so I don't know how many of the places we went to are left.....

DD may have put in a brief appearance at the Manchester meet-up, although motivated more by cake than maternal safety.

Just putting the idea out there, but in York, the Bar Convent has a newly-rediscovered medieval manuscript going on display, its cafe can take reservations for up to 15 people (although it closes earlier than is ideal), down the street are two excellent second-hand book shops and it's close to the train station and parking...

I'd definitely be up for that @bibliomania

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/03/2025 11:59

I have PMd you @MamaNewtNewt

Lol. I had a talk about 'stranger danger' from my teenagers last year before I went!

So did I! 😁

If (like me)you are open to both then drop us both a line.

For LON at the moment thinking of June due to someone who lives overseas being in the UK then, but can work it out.

That's me! I'm still not 100% sure of my dates but I will pin them down asap - but obviously I don't expect everyone to work around one person's availability.

I have pm'ed you Agua but like others had the gmail part of my email convert to gibberish - hope it makes sense.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 30/03/2025 22:03

Mine too! I spelled out dot and com and spaced it out :)

Stowickthevast · 30/03/2025 22:02

@cassandre the same thing happened to me with my email. I have tried to spell it without @ in it. @AgualusasLover let me know whether it works!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/03/2025 21:46

Thanks @MamaNewtNewtill be able to get to it sometime tomorrow!

cassandre · 30/03/2025 21:41

I've also just sent PMs to @AgualusasLover and @MamaNewtNewt ; I hope to make it to one or both meet ups, depending on dates! Thank you for organising.

I don't know if it's just me, but when I tried to type my gmail address into the PM, a whole string of weird characters came up. So I hope you can actually see the email address (even though I think you both have it already, as a result of the last Manchester meet up).

As a result of trying to send PMs, which I never do (!), I also found a message from a 50-Booker from last year that I had never seen before. 😳I'm technologically challenged!

I also do the over-talking thing when I'm nervous, so I'm glad to learn I'm not alone. At worst, I have been known to go full-on American and overshare my entire life story, to reactions of polite shock and bafflement (just kill me now, ha!).

Last year's meet up in Manchester was great though (and surprisingly unscary).

MamaNewtNewt · 30/03/2025 21:40

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit I messaged you.

Mine are more likely to want to come with me Hmm

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/03/2025 19:36

Can both @AgualusasLover and @MamaNewtNewt PM me? My email is my actual name and I’m petrified of doing it wrong and sending it to someone random!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 30/03/2025 18:37

Ah, I couldn't do that Sheila because I was taking the aeroplane.

More like “coming home with backache from carrying excess secondhand books” danger 😀

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 30/03/2025 18:13

Piggywaspushed · 30/03/2025 17:57

I'd consider London. Would have to convince DH that I wasn't meeting up with Hugh Grant and/or a mad axe murderer.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 30/03/2025 18:04

I've PMed for both as well. The northern locations suggested so far would all be doable for me. I feel London would be much more date dependent, but a definite maybe at this stage.

TimeforaGandT · 30/03/2025 17:59

I have sent PM to Agua

MegBusset · 30/03/2025 17:57

@MamaNewtNewt and @AgualusasLover I have pmed you both, though it’s come from one of my other usernames! (Could potentially do both depending on dates and location, though more likely to be south)

BlueFairyBugsBooks · 30/03/2025 13:35

I'll pM for London, there's a gig I quite fancy on 2nd June, so that date would be perfect for me. Probably not for anyone else though Grin

SheilaFentiman · 30/03/2025 13:30

Have also PM’d for London
