So the man who often sits opposite me on the train seems to be reading Classic Novels in alphabetical order. Who wants to guess what he's going to read next?

So I have only noticed this recently... I have seen him read

Frankenstein
Great Gatsby
Heart of Darkness
The Importance of Being Earnest
Jane Eyre
Kim

so what do you think will be for L? M?

I think it will be Lolita if it is going to be a classic... Love in the time of Cholera seems to recent to be a classic yet?

I like this thread, glad your commute has some points of interest fox in socks!

He would make a good character in a book Mr Alphabetical.

You are going to have to talk to him foxy - we have to know his choices from A - E

Swedes · 27/03/2008 21:23

If The Importance of Being Earnest is an "I" choice then Le Grand Meaulnes would be a "G" choice, surely?

M will be Miss Marple.

MrsJohnCusack · 27/03/2008 21:21

he he
he could read Xenophon's GUide to HOrsemanship I suppose

exactly pruners

I think I love him already

Les Miserables a very good call

nooonit · 27/03/2008 21:20

How far through Kim is he?
Will we have to wait long to find out what's next?
I'm always a bit jealous of people who do exciting things like commute on trains every day.
I know that sounds really stupid but it's the kind of thing people do in books to me!
Seems so cosmopolitan - when I'm at work (on maternity leave atm so anything involving leaving the house seems exciting!)I have a ten min drive where I'm only held up by cows going to be milked!
Perhaps he'll venture to Shakespeare and read Lear followed by Much ado. Feeble, I know!

Wheelybug · 27/03/2008 21:18

Great thread - its fascinating (and will be to see what he reads as the alphabet goes on !).

Also fascinating insight into commuting that you always presumably sit in the same seats, or near enough. I too commuted for years and DH and I once had to change where we got on the train because we always sat opposite these 2 women who gossiped all the way about nothing (he said, she said, ooh and then he said etc etc). I too used to be fascinated by what other people were reading (but never came across anything so interesting unforetunately !).

marina · 27/03/2008 21:14

Oh Mrs JC he'll be reading the English language libretto for Serse

marina · 27/03/2008 21:14

You said it pruners.
I would so have been making eye contact with such an evolved specimen
All reading on train round here involves Daily Mail and moving lips

marina · 27/03/2008 21:13

La Peste
Morte d'Arthur

He sounds several notches above my teeth-picking, lewd-texting, unfragrant fellow male commuters foxy

what will he read for X?
will he be able to get away with Generation X?

arthursmum · 27/03/2008 21:11

Les Miserables? It sounds like a great idea!

Thomcat · 27/03/2008 21:00

I love this thread, him and Foxy for starting it. Keep us updated all the way through.

I'm so up for this

GColdtimer · 27/03/2008 20:50

i totally believe you foxy. why make something like that up

Bink · 27/03/2008 20:45

Oh dear that was a cross-post - now you probably think that last post was having a further go.
I am sorry, I totally didn't mean to upset you - ulp.

Bluestocking · 27/03/2008 20:44

I believe you, Foxy, and thanks for telling us.

Bink · 27/03/2008 20:43

I was thinking about Lark Rise. As his choices are not especially, er, Virile, are they?

(But you know, even if it was made up it would be very marvellously made up. So don't be cross, instead be flattered.)
