Well... I'd love to meet you all!

Anyone who thinks they might be interested in coming to meet and talk books, post here.

There are going to be lots of dates, ideas and places and i wonder if anyone would be willing to organise with me?? It would mean private messaging and perhaps moving to WhatsApp or email at some point. Maybe 3 of us?

Hi PermanentTemporary! I didn't get one.

PermanentTemporary · 18/04/2024 16:20

I've sent an email about the London meet-up for all the emails I've got so far.

In Manchester today and visited central library. Honestly this photo is not the best but the building is absolutely amazing! To be a student and have the honour of studying here would have been epic. Wanted to visit John Rylands library but just no time today so hopefully this will be added to the Manchester trip 😁

We will firm up the details for the Manchester meet-up when we get a little nearer but please share any suggestions. This looks great!

RomanMum · 16/04/2024 17:08

@PermanentTemporary I've PMd you (I hope).

SheilaFentiman · 14/04/2024 22:23

I will PM an email, thank you! I am staying up in London for an event the night before, so hope to make it if my hangover isn’t too fierce 😀

BadSpellaSpellaSpella · 14/04/2024 20:06

I can make London, I'll pm my email

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 14/04/2024 19:46

Hi PermanentTemporary! I'm still interested in coming to the London meet-up so would appreciate being kept in the loop. I'll pm you with an email address now.

I'll know closer to the date if I'll make it. I would have to make a weekend of it as it's a bit far to go for one day only. I would need to go with dh for company and for practical purposes as I don't know London at all and am liable to get very lost by myself. But we might just manage it! Fingers crossed.

PermanentTemporary · 14/04/2024 19:41

@PepeLePew I've just had a look on the app and I can't see it on there! I will pm you now and see if it turns up.

Shameful but true: I don't know how to PM! Do I need to go onto the website, perhaps? I only use the app and can't see how to do it.

PermanentTemporary · 14/04/2024 15:10

Hello all. This is to ask all those who are definites or possibles for the London meetup to PM me an email address you're happy for me to send details to (thanks to @CornishLizard for the suggestion!) On the day there will be a mobile number available (many thanks @StColumbofNavron )

I can absolutely guarantee to you from a GDPR perspective that I will not be able to find the data a few weeks hence.

I love the idea of a book swap! Maybe wrapped and make it a lucky dip type thing? We did it on a group holiday once and it was really fun. I suspect I'd like almost anything anyone on this thread brought along.

PermanentTemporary · 12/04/2024 22:46

Good thought @StColumbofNavron about not being too public. Will ponder this.

We thought we'd ask everyone to bring a book they've enjoyed to swap too. My guess is that we will manage to spot each other... I might bring a bookish umbrella of some kind.

CrepuscularCritter I love the Virago Modern Classic idea!

CrepuscularCritter · 12/04/2024 16:42

Bloomsbury sounds great. I like the communication suggestions, and the thoughts of a base for the meet up. I'm still hobbling a bit post surgery, so would welcome not too many steps that day. Grin I'm currently amusing myself by wondering how we might identify one another on the day. A Virago Modern Classic in hand?

CornishLizard · 12/04/2024 15:56

Thank you StColumb and others who are organising. Suggested London locations sound marvellous, I’ve never been to any of them so will be a treat! I’ll probably be travelling from home which is at least a couple of hours away so would prefer not too early a start. Good idea to confirm details off thread, I can’t think of best way other than perhaps if people pm you email addresses?

PepeLePew · 12/04/2024 11:47

I'm in for London! I may have to arrive late or leave early pending some other commitments but it's super easy for me to get there and I'd love to make some internet friends.

highlandcoo · 12/04/2024 11:42

Yes of course!! Thanks for the reminder. Behind the Brunswick Centre..
and I’ve just googled and see there’s a branch in Bath too, where I’m going next weekend for the Persephone festival, so all good 😊

StColumbofNavron · 12/04/2024 10:44

@highlandcoo SKOOBS!

Palegreenstars · 11/04/2024 20:02

Thank you so much for arranging. I was hoping to come to London but we are aiming to complete on buying a house the week before so if that doesn’t get delayed I’ll be out. I’d love to be kept in the loop though as it may still be delayed

highlandcoo · 11/04/2024 18:19

Thanks so much @StColumbofNavron and others who're organising this meet-up. I should be able to come to London - and maybe Manchester too - and once we have an idea of timings that day will look at trains down.

I think not making plans too public would be wise, and happy to go along with whatever works best to keep in touch - a WhatsApp group might be easy?

It'll be lovely to be back in Bloomsbury as I volunteered in the area for years and used to visit Persephone Books in Lambs Conduit Street and go to a second-hand bookshop at the back of the shopping centre (I think)

StColumbofNavron · 11/04/2024 17:00

Of course of course. I might hand around until the Andrei Kurkov talk at the BL.

Boiledeggandtoast · 11/04/2024 16:38

Although I'm starting my quilting course on 18 May, could I also be included in any links please as I may (hopefully) be able to make it later on if you're lingering into late afternoon.

SheilaFentiman · 11/04/2024 16:09

@StColumbofNavron possibly a 30 day only or OTBT thread?

I have an email address which isn't my name that I used to sign up to MN in the first place so I would also be happy to use that in an email group

Tarahumara · 11/04/2024 15:41

Hello, I don't think I'll be able to come on the 18th (DS1 school 'graduation') but just hanging around on the thread until I know the timings for that.
