Not sure this was the right place to post, but if anyone can recommend a podcast that might interest me, that would be great. I like reading History books, fiction and non fiction. Tudor queens....monarchy....something like that. I've searched but only found topics like WWs

@DelphiniumBlue apologies for forgetting to tag you in the last post!

RustedfromtheRain · 26/06/2023 13:31

Lovely to meet you too! I was listening to The History of English podcast by Kevin Stroud (which is also excellent) and he recommended the BHP 😊 I've fallen asleep with Jamie most nights since then 😄

DelphiniumBlue · 25/06/2023 21:45

RustedfromtheRain lovely to meet another BHP listener! I'm currently re-listening to the Cnut years, I haven't made as far as 1066 yet but assumed it must go further by now. I put it on if I wake up in the night, my guilty pleasure!
How did you come across it?

RustedfromtheRain · 25/06/2023 21:36

The British History podcast is fantastic, really detailed but also entertaining - goes from Stone Age to ... I think currently up to Tudor times?

I LOVE the BHP! He's actually only just got past 1066 and it's been going for over 12 years 😄 I only discovered it around 2 years ago and have already listened to most episodes 2 or 3 times.

Thanks to this thread, I listened to my very first podcast today! Not just the Tudors
Thanks all for the recommendations, great thread

I love a lot of those already mentioned. I would also recommend:

Killing Victoria
The long view
Bad Women
Dan Carlin's hardcore history
Great Lives
In our time (covers a huge range of topics but includes a lot of history based episodes)
Our fake history
The history chicks
We are history
When Greeks flew kites

TheMarzipanDildo · 10/06/2023 23:25

The Rest is History is so bloody good.

I love Dead to Me and In Our Time - endless variety, 1000s of episodes on bbc sounds!

History Extra and History Hit (and its affiliated podcasts) are brilliant. I'd also recommend Tudor Dynasty, it is hosted by an American but has a lot of British historians on it. I have also dipped in and out of Dan Jones' podcast.

ElinorDashwood68 · 10/06/2023 14:30

I'm currently listening to Season 1 Dan Jones This is History starting with The Plantagenets

FettleOfKish · 10/06/2023 14:21

I like Dan Snow's History Hit and the History Extra podcast. Also Stuff you missed in History class.

You're dead to me as already mentioned of course.

I also enjoy Betwixt The Sheets which is social history, on the subjects of sex, scandal, celebrity, society etc. Some tough subjects but also some lighter ones. It's very funny too.

Hernamewaslola1 · 10/06/2023 14:18

The Empire podcast - realty well presented. The first season is about the British in India and then subsequent seasons cover the Ottoman Empire, Israel and Palestine etc

NoraLuka · 10/06/2023 14:18

I love you’re dead to me, I’ve learned so much from it and they make all the topics interesting. I’ve found I remember what I’ve heard as well, which isn’t always the case with other podcasts.

Also In our time - that’s more serious but also interesting.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 10/06/2023 14:15

David Starkey is the go to on the Tudors. On you tube.

NannyR · 10/06/2023 14:12

I love The rest is history, Empire is another good historical one.

JaninaDuszejko · 10/06/2023 14:10

Migrations about the British experience of migration through history I found fascinating, I'd highly recommend it. Otherwise another vote for You're Dead to Me which I love.

Empire by William Dalrymple and Anita Anand is getting food reviews, I haven't managed to tune it yet.

howlismoving · 08/06/2023 10:22

@Iminpatchinghell you're dead to me is AMAZING!

I really like talking tudors but will be checking out not just the tudors now!

Revisionist history is interesting too.
