Secret History , Donna Tartt. I am on a mission to get everyone to read it. Written in the 1980s. Wonderful writing.

Small things Like These - Claire Keegan. More of a novella really, but I love her economical style of writing.

Agree about American Dirt. It is definitely gripping.

ArseMenagerie · 09/05/2023 19:14

Yes to Jane Gardam!
also anything by Kate Atkinson the latest is called Shrines of Gaiety

also, I really loved Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers

The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld. The most beautifully written book I’ve read in years, but it’s quite gritty. It’s not often a book stays with me but it definitely has.

I recently really enjoyed "Lessons in Chemistry"
American Dirt is incredibly gripping.

Exactly the two that sprang to my mind!

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus and The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn were two I couldn't put down (recently)
