It’s that time of the year again with the hidden books game. I’ve got 5/20 so far and still going. So happy to chat about it.

Re. the one on the ladder - I only learnt today (from reading this thread) that part of that book title was a word for strong winds.

I’d heard of the book before. I’ve even read the book before, and marvelled at just how fucked up the relationship between a certain two characters was.
But I’d never realised what the literal meaning of the title was 🫣

...and heaths/cliffs 😉

The ladder is a classic which teen girls see as moody and romantic and adult women see as fucked up. It is very blustery on those hills.

Still not got the ladder, fruitless googles of 80s songs. It's my last one.

The ladder is irrelevant. It's just a means to get her ....
The song was late 70s, not 80s.

Looks like the singer

@steppemum

A coffee chain that sponsors awards will help

HJTW · 11/11/2022 13:37

Got it! Thanks

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/11/2022 13:36

Cannot bloody believe how long it took me to get the bloody dog.
I had thought of the title and ruled it out, well its not that, I said. Comes from not knowing dog breeds, I get that clue now!

InMySpareTime · 11/11/2022 13:35

Google "Us at the end book" and you'll get it.

AnneKipankitoo · 11/11/2022 13:30

The final word

HJTW · 11/11/2022 13:25

Can you give us a clue? it's the only one I can't get

AllPlayedOut · 11/11/2022 13:17

I just found the answer elsewhere. What a relief. I can sleep now.

AllPlayedOut · 11/11/2022 13:08

Does anyone please have a clue for Us? I've read the whole thread and saw that it's YA and I know what fin means but I still can't get it. I don't know anything about YA beyond John Green. It's the only one I've yet to get and it's driving me crazy,

nannaJM · 11/11/2022 12:37

The clue is what the dog is doing, the name on the collar and the two books on the counter

anexcellentwoman · 11/11/2022 11:27

Thank you for the clues. I really enjoy this quiz each year!

steppemum · 11/11/2022 11:25

Thank you finally got it!

I have to say that the tie dye man is a dreadful, dreadful pun.

sad that I have to wait another 12 months.

I wonder if a mn has ever won the £500?

InMySpareTime · 11/11/2022 11:19

@steppemum if they were next to each other in time rather than space, how would you describe each book sequentially?

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/11/2022 11:14

steppemum · 11/11/2022 10:50

I was stumped because for ages I was thinking the dog was a librarian...

So did I.

steppemum · 11/11/2022 11:06

finally got US, and yes dd has read it.

I am completely stumped by the 2 life books.
Googling doesn't help as it throws up a perfect answer which is apparently wrong!

I can't think of any other combination

InMySpareTime · 11/11/2022 10:58

@steppemum given the page that is open, you can't say how the book begins. What can you say about it?

steppemum · 11/11/2022 10:56

on 15.
I have to say that for the ladder one, I had no idea that the first word of the title meant windy!
(now that I think abotu it, it is obvious...)

for US, it is on the tip of my tounge, I am so sure dd is reading it, and I forgot to ask her last night. I got the heart one because of her reading habits 😁

yodaforpresident · 11/11/2022 10:53

@Nightynightnight thank you - I could kick myself!

steppemum · 11/11/2022 10:50

CryCeratops · 10/11/2022 17:44

The name of the dog was crucial for me. And also think about what the dog is doing…

I was stumped because for ages I was thinking the dog was a librarian...

Nightynightnight · 11/11/2022 10:47

@yodaforpresident when you climb to the top of a long ladder you are at a great ......
