Marian Keyes - my friends laugh at me for reading her books

But I love her writing. I think she writes fab, escapist, funny novels. What's the general consensus here?

I love her too. Good , well written , funny,for those days you don't feel like tackling Gabriel Garcia Marquez or Phillip Roth but want something one step up from a Jackie Collins

actually think her characters are well drawn and the stories are engaging and relevant to real life on the whole

not every book you read has to be life changingly intellectual

don't think it does to be too snobby about books, reading is a wonderful way to escape, and to learn, and go to another place

Love Rachels Holiday have read that about 4 times!
Agree with comment about Cecilia Ahern, what a pile of crap

Nice light holiday /vegging out nonsense as you say good escapist stuff!!

I love heavier tomes but we all need to lighten up at times!!

Like the early ones best - Rachel's Holiday in particular, latter ones OK, best writer of chicklit around IMO

I don't mind Marian Keyes, although I couldn't tell you anything about any book of hers that I've read (and I've read 2 or 3!)

Prefer her to the PS I Love You woman anyway

I love em, especially for fluffy reading whilst on holiday that requires no effort

I think she's brilliant - I love the wit and the observation of people! And I think there is more to her books than the average chick lit. Watermelon is my favoourite.

She's great. her personality really comes through in her books. not a big fan of chicklit it is generally excruciatingly boring or predictable but she gives it such humour that its bearable
