I need a Chalet School fix

Please help:

Where can I download a Chalet School book? I'm astonished that I cannot find any as ebook.

(When you're under the weather, nothing quite hits the spot like a bit of EBD escapism.)

@FelicityBeedle

Oh no that’s awful!! Hopefully they will make someone else very happy? Do you need the link?
I really hope so. Randomly, she's kept Little women and the Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe. I'd love the link, please.
DuneFan · 26/12/2021 16:14

Oh no! The same thing happened to my MIL in the 1970s and she's still sad about it.

MrsHamlet · 26/12/2021 11:03

I know. I don't know why 🤷‍♀️

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 26/12/2021 10:58

Oh NO MrsHamlet!

MrsHamlet · 26/12/2021 10:06

I'm sneaking into this thread because I was gutted to discover that my mother has charity shopped all my chalet school books - I was planning to binge them over Christmas and they're gone :(

DuneFan · 25/12/2021 21:02

I don't think we get many Christmas episodes in the later books, given that they focus on term time mostly, but I agree that that's the best! I've just acquired an unabridged hardback of Jo Of and there's even more colour and detail in the original.

I'd have loved pinafores as a child! Until I was about 13 anyway.

FelicityBeedle · 25/12/2021 20:17

That’s what I went for in the end! I think we should go back to children in pinafores and little boys in shorts and long socks. Very practical!

Howyoualldoworkme · 25/12/2021 20:14

FelicityBeedle How about the one where they go to the Mensches for Christmas? And Frau Mensch is shocked that Jo doesn't own any pinafores?

FelicityBeedle · 25/12/2021 13:58

@Parker231 I’ve been doing your job I think, hope you don’t mind! Grin

Which is the most Christmassy one to read today do we think?

Parker231 · 24/12/2021 21:06

Apologies just seen this thread. I’ve the Dropbox with all the books which you can load to your Kindle. If you pm me your email address I’ll send the link to all the books.

lovehatesummer · 24/12/2021 17:38

I've just read Chaz Brenchley's Three Twins at the Crater School - it's a hugely enjoyable send up of the Chalet School if transplanted to Mars! You can tell the author knows and loves the CS books, it's so spot on.

Am off to read Beswitched now, sounds right up my alley!

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 23/12/2021 17:21

I’m loving fadedpage.com, thank you @Howyoualldoworkme!

BamboozledandBefuddled · 21/12/2021 19:18
Loads of good free stuff on here including masses of Abbey books that I became slightly addicted to Grin They seem to breed even more than the Chalet School and are all called Jan or Joy or Rose!
You do need a kindle though.

Thank you Flowers I loved the few Abbey books I've read! That's my Christmas reading taken care of Smile

FelicityBeedle · 20/12/2021 23:07

I think I’m going to start on the Ebooks again, I only found out about them through the MN threads and am so glad I did

Dilbertian · 20/12/2021 21:13

I have just had a massive downloading session. Thanks so much to the posters who sent or posted links Grin

Nothing beats holding a book, or running your finger across the shelf to choose a book, but having a massive supply of escapism in a kindle is a very good second best!

Though a kindle does have one huge advantage when reading in bed: I cannot read lying down with my varifocals on, but I can whack the magnification up on a kindle, which allows me to read without my glasses at all. Bliss.

DameAlyson Apologies, I tend to use Kindle as a generic Smile

You don't need a Kindle for fadedpage. There are text and html versions of the books which can be read on any device.

There are a few Chalet School books there too. 'Camp' was just posted the other day.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/12/2021 12:35
@StrychnineInTheSandwiches Thank you for the Beswitched recommendation! I downloaded it from the library and inhaled it in a couple of hours. Really, really good.
Ah, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was a delight. And I found the end surprisingly moving, which I wasn't expecting. Smile

DuneFan · 19/12/2021 17:35

Ooh thanks for the faded page link. I could never get into the Abbey books because there were too many and the library didn't have them. Will have to dust off my e reader!

helpadvicewhateverneeded · 19/12/2021 15:59

Sorry @FelicityBeedle! You have saved me from sone really dark moments with it over the last year or so so thank you!!!!

FelicityBeedle · 19/12/2021 14:49

@Howyoualldoworkme
That was probably @parker231 at that time

Onlyhereforchaletschool · 19/12/2021 14:48

@FelicityBeedle that information has made me join mumsnet.

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/12/2021 14:47

FelicityBeedle Please thank that person, they helped get me through lockdown Flowers

Howyoualldoworkme · 19/12/2021 14:45

And for a brilliant dissection of all of The Abbey Books (which are quite quite mad!) this is excellent
