American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

It's fantastic. Would never normally read a fantasy book but I can't put this one down.

InLoveWithSweenyTodd · 22/02/2008 14:18

zoe valdes's "la nada cotidiana" ("Yocandra in the Paradise of Nada: A Novel of Cuba") going through a very hot chapter 8

finknottle · 22/02/2008 10:08

The Letters of Noel Coward
Don't like Barry Day's asinine comments though.

filthymindedvixen · 22/02/2008 10:02

13 moons by the chap who wrote Cold Mountain. It's is very atmospheric and beautifully written. Also reading This book will save your life by AM Holmes. very funny and surreal and sort of sweet.
Also re-reading a very harrowing book called Good Women Of China - hideden voices by Xinran Xue.

FlossieT · 22/02/2008 09:55

Then We Came to The End - Joshua Ferris

Got rave reviews but I'm not entirely convinced - I'm finding the writing in the first-person plural thing really annoying, although I can see what he's trying to do. Also everyone said it was laugh-out-loud hilarious, which I am not finding, but then that's probably for the same reasons I didn't find The Office as hysterical as everybody else. Just too close to real life to be comfortable.

Playing with the moon- Mumsnets very own Eliza Graham.

Stephen King's Duma Key - really enjoying it. Off to bed to carry on! Although it is very heavy.

dingdong05 · 15/02/2008 23:25

Terry Pratchet, Making Money

elkiedee · 15/02/2008 23:17

suedonim, I read Purple Hibiscus very recently too, still thinking about it. Right now I'm reading Gone to Ground by one of my favourite crime fiction writers, John Harvey.

Harimad · 15/02/2008 23:02

Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy L Sayers. I've recently grown an aversion to new books and only want to comfort read old favourites...

Spockster · 14/02/2008 15:19

The Gathering, because I should....GOD it's hard going!

suedonim · 14/02/2008 14:32

Not fiction but I'm now reading In Siberia by Colin Thubron.

I can't get 'Astonishing' out of my head, though. It's about a woman who has lost her baby and some of the images are very vivid.

mumdebump · 13/02/2008 19:54

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

I know EVERYONE read it 5 years ago, but I've been a bit busy! Loving it though.

suedonim · 12/02/2008 16:03

Astonishing Splashes of Colour by Clare Morrall.

Wendy, I recently read Diary of a Provincial Daughter. It's by Provincial Lady's RL dd.

cheeryface · 12/02/2008 15:49

i am reading and enjoying The Infidelity Chain by Tess Stimson

Harimad · 09/02/2008 22:45

Five Red Herrings by Dorothy L Sayers.

Absolutely love the Peter Wimsey detective novels, but always forget that I hate / find it difficult to read the regional dialects she puts into this one...

WendyWeber · 09/02/2008 22:13

The Editor's Wife by Clare Chambers (new in paperback, not liking it as much as her earlier ones)

Also have Dairy of a Provincial Lady and Letters Between Six Sisters in my stack (plus a v old collection of Nancy Mitford's novels, plus And Another Thing waiting its turn )

(I could do with several weeks in bed just to work through the books-in-waiting )

Bubble99 · 09/02/2008 22:06

Re reading the first few Patricia Cornwell Scarpettas.

RIELOVESBACARDI · 09/02/2008 22:04

my booky wooky thing by russell brand

bran · 09/02/2008 22:03

I'm reading Judas Unchained by Peter F Hamilton and The Hard Way by Lee Child and How to Talk so Children Will Listen. I usually have a romance and/or a classic or modern fiction on the go, but not at the moment. I've just finished Crow Lake, which was great.

3andnomore · 09/02/2008 22:00

"The Family Friend" by Matt Lowe

started a bit slow, but is now becoming more intersting...

jezzemx · 09/02/2008 21:54
