bad sex awards: how about childbirth?

Article in the Times touched on the literary award for bad sex in a novel. I wondered whether any one has any contributions for a literary bad birth in a novel?

Can't think of any toe curlingly embarrassing childbirth in fiction myself, but a funny one in Adrian Mole, when Adrian witnesses the birth because the nurses mistakenly thought he was the baby's father, so we see the birth through his eyes and then the fun of the nurses' horror when they realised who he was! (Thanks Sue Townsend - a memorable scene.)

I have CAT Kathy.

lionheart · 04/12/2007 14:17

I haven't figured it out yet.

C'mon, UnquietDad, think of the sales.

The live chat.

The endless possibilities for name-changing.

onebatmother · 04/12/2007 14:12

did consider it when I saw how long VS's suggestion was.
will look to see if there is a way of refining amazon search to only include books with only 1 in stock -hattersley -o'farrell -parsons

Swedes2Turnips1 · 04/12/2007 14:06

UQD - Only one more copy in stock on Amazon.

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 14:00

Yay!

UnquietDad · 04/12/2007 13:58

VS - yup!

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 13:56

I feel I have to go and buy one of your books now UnquietDad, I really hope I have the right person, I've probably got it soo wrong.
You have a red book that's kind of appropriate right now don't you???

Kathyis6incheshigh · 04/12/2007 13:55

Enable CATs and someone might tell you.

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 13:54

obm, read all his posts in book thread, only book threads.

UnquietDad · 04/12/2007 13:52

[splutter] no!

onebatmother · 04/12/2007 13:46

are you Roy Hattersley?

onebatmother · 04/12/2007 13:43

I am reading wrong paper aren't i?

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 13:37

I've worked it out too, and I didn't even know you were a writer!
Wasn't sure I had the right person but the blue box clue was a dead give away once you know who you are iyswim.

Swedes2Turnips1 · 04/12/2007 13:35

You said you had accidentally outed yourself on one of the book threads. I think you use the word "accidentally" in the same way Peter Hain uses it.

UnquietDad · 04/12/2007 13:30

swedes - what were my clues? I didn't think I'd given away that much.

onebatmother · 04/12/2007 13:25

damn now I think I'm barking up the wrong aisle of waterstones.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 04/12/2007 13:15

Swedes - you clearly got a first for your dissertation on Elegantly Demonstrating That You Really Have Worked It Out.

onebatmother · 04/12/2007 13:13

I promise!

Swedes2Turnips1 · 04/12/2007 13:12

UQD - Do I have your permission to tell OBM by email? In return for her promise to buy your book, say?

onebatmother · 04/12/2007 13:12

An upper second Dr Swedes? I am lowly third.
(obviously not if real life though. Good Lord!)

onebatmother · 04/12/2007 13:11

can we do a Mrs Doyle thingy?

Is it Father Finlay McKinley?
Is it Father Patrick O'Dwyer?
Is it Father Feargal O'Flaherty
Is it Father Michael Malone?
Is it etc etc for years.

Swedes2Turnips1 · 04/12/2007 13:11

I don't want to be responsible for outing anyone. I managed to uncover UQD's clues all by myself and I've only got a BSc (hons) upper second in Forensic Search and Outing On Mumsnet.

PatsyCline · 04/12/2007 13:02

I am sending a thong, darling, not knickers. Joan and I may be getting on a bit, but we do have our repuatations to maintain.

Amazon sales surge coming up (there's only one book in stock at the moment, so the surge may have already happened...)

UnquietDad · 04/12/2007 13:02

I'm not CATted, onebat, otherwise I'd tell you.
