I read somewhere that Tom described Strike as being a big bear of a man with a soft middle & I think that’s a pretty good description along with JKR comments on strike not doing self pity. If he’s in pain literally or figuratively he either swears or drinks. Though thinking about it, drinking isn’t really dealing with pain just numbing it....

Shipping I think TV strike is less intense than book strike, mostly because so much of the books get cut in the adaptation. Tom gives good ‘intensity’ but I don’t think the directors wanted it for the tv adaptation, I think they were after more ‘very masculine with tragic back story allowing fir moments of broody vulnerability’ 😆

Oh I have found my people. I love these books and can’t seem to settle with any other books since finishing TB. I’m going to have to reread it.
EO, thank you for the podcast Flowers which is pitched at just the right level. It’s just fantastic and your voice is perfect (has a hint of JKR herself about it).

Offtothedogs · 29/11/2020 05:46

Ooh I was just coming on here to ask for some fanfic recommendations please! I haven't had chance to listen to the podcast yet but am v much looking forward to it Smile

ShippingStrikeandRobin · 28/11/2020 20:15

Name changed in honour of this thread.

Oh wow EO, I really enjoyed your podcast. I love your voice, perfect.

Did I hear you write fanfic? Would love to read, please link to your stories.

I've just finished watching The Silkworm. I like Tom as Strike. I think he looks better with his stubble/facial hair than without (really doesn't suit him without in my opinion). He comes across as more light hearted on the show, Tom has a little smile on his lips - maybe that's just his resting face? Book Strike is much more intense for me.

@EllacottObsessive

I think the best line is 'I can be very persuasive when I set my heart on something'

I believe it, sir. I really do.

Tbh my favourite but was the angry slamming through the doors in the final episode which I may need to gif now...

@EllacottObsessive

It will be an enormous travail for you. Can I also recommend the second series of The Hour if you have Amazon Prime? Quite fabulous.
I must stop fangirling but the hour was the first time I was “hello!”

@Kit19

Your mission should you choose to accept it 😆😆
Well, if I didn't do much work next week, I could maybe fit it all in, especially since Bake Off is finished 😂
EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 28/11/2020 17:25

[quote EllacottObsessive]Ok, that was quicker than I expected. It's on Spotify, prepare to be astonished at my lack of technical ability or presentation skills....

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 28/11/2020 16:43

Yes, it's from watching the Musketeers on one of the wenches threads, although I was only only there because of a different actor who I'd known a long time ago Blush.

I do want to see War and Peace though, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere to stream atm, unless anyone knows differently?

EllacottObsessive · 28/11/2020 16:24

Verily, bless the lord for soup.

I believe JKR was instrumental in having Tom Burke cast after seeing him in war & peace...a woman of infinite taste 😆

and yes indeed what’s wrong with both??

I'm currently rewatching the series from the beginning, to pick up on all the little bits I missed first time round, I did start with rereading the books, but then got cross with JKR for describing Strike all wrong (cos book Strike doesn't look like TB), and had to have a word with myself as I'm not a teenager on Tumblr, devastated because the Actual Author doesn't make it like in my head Grin.

I need to spend more time on here reading the erudite literary analysis rather than google image searching Tom Burke I think....

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 28/11/2020 15:13

ooh, what an amazing podcast, and what an incredible voice you have EO. Episode 2 now please Grin.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 28/11/2020 14:20

That was really good EO. I’m impressed with how quickly you took the idea and made it a reality.
I have hit the follow button :)

Lancelottie · 28/11/2020 13:26

Oh that was so good! Like my favourite bits of Radio 4 before it went weird. (I realise you may or may not think of this as a compliment.)

EllacottObsessive · 28/11/2020 13:02

Agreed. Grin
