I've recently started re-reading books I read as a child and teenager, having a fantastic time doing it so thought I'd share, would love to hear your books! As you will see there is a strong Enid Blyton theme....

Famous Five (but not all of them)
Malory Towers
Faraway Tree
Goodnight Mr Tom
Black Beauty (who was this by?)
the Little HOuse on the Prairie series
Nancy Drew

I used to have a great Enid Blyton one - which I hope to purchase a copy of later today from Ebay.

I also had a lovely illustrated poem book which I loved with classics such as "winkin blinkin and nod' in

I'm on a mission to find the latter as I am now re-living my childhood reading with my DS1 who is 4.

Great OP, and good timing too as I spent the weekend sorting out old books at my father's house.

I've found lots of old Chalet School books and some Noel Streatfield ones that I remembered - White Boots, Ballet Shoes - and some I didn't remember - Thursday's Child, The Circus is Coming. And the Flambards quartet as well, which after many many re-readings over the years I can't probably quote verbatim if asked!

Does anyone else remember The Children Who Lived in a Barn? And any ideas why so many children's books are about children at school or abandoned or otherwise lacking in parents?

Oh,and i had a real thing for James Herbert and Stephen King. I hate them now! I read all the Virginia Andrews books at primary too. Didn't she die and someone else take over writting? Wish i could remember the names of what i used to read - i know the stories but never the author or title!

fawkeoff · 11/09/2007 14:41

adrian mole diaries

I loved Goodnight Mr Tom. I loved the My Friend Flika series. Wish i could remember who wrote them. I had all of my mums books but her partner threw them away when i moved out! Ignorant b@~£&*#!

I stopped reading from 11-16 - secondary school just beat it out of me. Before that I was a voracious and precocious reader, my friends and I were reading Virginia Andrews at primary school! I remember the original Brothers Grimm and HCAndersen fairytales with fondness, very gruesome.

The diddakoi by Rumer Godden.
The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

I often re read childrens' books when I feel sorry for myself!

BTW think Anna Sewell wrote BB
