Sharon Lathan.... TOTAL smut but when I'm feeling really down they cheer me up a bit Blush

kirkandpetal · 15/02/2020 04:17

And another Jilly Cooper fan here! I've read them several times over. Rivals and Polo are my absolute faves.
My mum would buy the latest copy as and when they were published, and taken it on our 2 week 'sun' holiday. She would read it, then my dad would occasionally read it, then I would. Cringe a bit now when I think we had all read the same sex scenes....I could only have been early to mid teens!

rednsparkley · 12/02/2020 23:46

I love a bit of Karen Rose - crime novels with added smut - what's not to love Grin

Honeybee85 · 12/02/2020 23:44

Also Barbara Bradford Taylor

Honeybee85 · 12/02/2020 23:38

Danielle Steel

JaneJeffer · 12/02/2020 23:34

Ian McEwan. I'm not embarrassed but he's hated on here.

GothMummy · 12/02/2020 23:30

I love Charlaine Harris. She wrote the books True Blood was based on. Vampires, iced tea and smut!

Fantababy · 12/02/2020 23:21

Another one who came on to say Marian Keyes. Could not admit that one at work.

bsc · 12/02/2020 22:52

I had absolutely no idea that Phillipa Gregory was considered so infra dig!

My username isn't for babysitting club...which I am guessing is sort of SVH for the generation below mine?

whatdoyouthinkyouknow · 12/02/2020 22:17

Jilly Cooper here too.

I'm showing my age.

Lllot5 · 12/02/2020 22:04

@InTheCludgie
Nothing wrong with Agatha Christie, she’s not the world’s best selling author for nothing.

InspectorAlleyn · 12/02/2020 21:59

H Y Hanna (Tearoom Murders/Cottage Garden Murders). So predictable and you can tell who the murderer is immediately, but easy to read. I’m on my third this week Blush. They appeal to my love of Agatha Christie (but not as clever).

catinb0oots · 11/02/2020 17:36

Has anyone said Marian Keyes yet??? Blush

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 11/02/2020 16:59

A friend was once surprised to see lots of Catherine Cookson on my shelves once. I’m not sure why, she writes a good story, her writing is good and there is pace and I have profound respect for the research put in (going down the mines and such like).

In the same vein as my collection of CC over the years (I love an interesting cover) I have a decent collection of Poirot novels and love Christie too (again, I tend to pick them up when I see interesting covers).

Hippychickster · 01/02/2020 16:30

Ah ok thanks!

1066vegan · 01/02/2020 16:21

@Hippychickster YA is Young Adult; what used to be called teenage fiction.

Hippychickster · 01/02/2020 16:07

Jilly Cooper!

What is YA?

RebornFlame · 01/02/2020 14:38

Marian Keyes. They’re my comfort blanket novels that I can read a hundred times.

Squigean · 01/02/2020 14:34

Not much sex M&B made me think of Catherine Cookson. I haven't read on in years (talking decades) and I used to love them!! I'd sneak off to a quite room when I was at my Nan's with one of her copies!!

Papergirl1968 · 01/02/2020 14:17

I prefer the older M&B when there wasn’t much sex in them and if there was a sex scene, the woman was a virgin and there wasn’t much detail. I’m no prude but I’m not so keen on modern M&B which aren’t far off erotica! Blush

Redcrayons · 01/02/2020 11:51

Not one author, but I love a Mills and Boon when things are getting a bit too much. Easy reads, simple, not too many characters, I know what’s going to happen before I’ve started. Just blocks out the real world for a short time.

I’ve long suspected they’re churned out by a computer though.

Papergirl1968 · 01/02/2020 11:46

Three types not rupees!

Papergirl1968 · 01/02/2020 11:45

Yes Betty, they’re still writing.
I love both Patricia Scanlan and Jodi Picoult. Used to like Cathy Kelly but thought she went off the boil.
BookWitch is spot on about supermarkets being full of those three rupees of books. Although I do enjoy the occasional cafe-on-the- coast light read!

mamaduckbone · 30/01/2020 23:05

Philippa Gregory for me too - love a bit of Tudor drama!
Also Jojo Moyes - total easy reading heaven.

Xyzzzzz · 30/01/2020 22:14

Francine pascal - her sweet valley series lol

I also loved BSC @Muddlingalongalone
