Unputdownable crime /psychological thriller?

Feels like an age since I've had a book that I couldn't put down. Last one I really enjoyed was Apple Tree Yard, I think.

Any ideas?

Tempted to give the above mentioned Sophie Hannah but the last one of hers I read just seemed to keep repeating the premise on the back of the book blurb and didn't actually get anywhere. Also the relationship between the two detectives never gets anywhere.

I recently read Dark Chapter by Winnie Li. I bought the book several months ago after seeing her speaking at an event. I guess it’s fictional, but strongly based on real events. It’s something I’ve had experience of, and it rang true for me.

I found her writing very interesting, and look forward to her next book.

Another recommendation for Sharon Bolton, particularly Now You SeeMe. Such an excellent writer and brilliant at invoking a disturbing atmosphere.

Sister by Rosamund Lupton was unputdownable.

The Maeve Kerrigan series by Jane Casey. Sassy female DC in a man's world solving murders.

I love anything by Shari Lapena

DrMaryMalone · 22/11/2019 21:27

Maybe something by Sharon (SJ).Bolton? I remember quite enjoying her first book Sacrifice and a few others after that.

I just finished The Last by Hanna Jameson in 2 days and was gripped the whole way through! 20 people are stranded in a Swiss hotel following a nuclear war and a body is found... mixture of survival story and murder mystery.

Tana French’s Dublin series is great too.

Another one for Sabine Durrant Lie with me. Love all her books, she's got a great style of writing.

The Dry is good actually. I need to remember to look for other titles by that author.

The Burning Air by Erin Kelly. What a twist!

TheOriginalChatelaine · 22/11/2019 09:18

Nicci French, the Frieda Klein series or any of their stand alone thrillers. Peter James, Roy Grace series or his stand alone thrillers.

Clare. Not Clair

KondoKonvert · 21/11/2019 19:56

I second I Let You Go. Her other books haven't been quite as good though.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 21/11/2019 19:56

I See You by Clair Macintosh is also very good.
