Don't post here if you don't want to know who dies and what happens.

You've been warned.

started listening to the cd's this morning

I really enjoyed it but did think things got rushed at the end. People dying and no explanation and suddenly it's over and nowt but a wee epilogue. I rather like epilogues tbh but that was a little on the lame side.

Loved that Kreacher came good! Thought the love stuff (Harry/Ginny Ron/Hermione) was a little dull after all the build-up but did like the Snape/Lily stuff. Really liked that actually, so sad.

God, though I really sped-read the second half, which I told myself I wouldn't do, so am going to re-read quite soon.

There did seem to be a lot hinted at in past books that never came to fruition. I.e agree we could have got loads more out of Petunia.

Anyone else find themselves thinking of the last Dr Who episode when they read about Voldemort as the shrunken baby-thing?!

Epilogue was cheesy. You could almost hear the love-story music, see the soft misty focus - pass the bucket.

Was really getting into the whole Harry-being-sacrificed bit but was almost disappointed when he came back to life. What happened there ffs?!

VoldemortrepentsandmarriesLuna · 24/07/2007 19:06

would have been much better to leave it than to do a half arsed epilogue.

FrannyandZooey · 24/07/2007 19:06

ditto bereft but too shy too tell anyone

I read it very very s-l-o-w-l-y with a piece of paper covering each adjoining page so I couldn't skip ahead (have nasty habit of reading 2 pages all at once otherwise)

expatinscotland · 24/07/2007 19:05

That was my main beef with the book, the Aaron Spelling epilogue.

Pass the bucket!

Why not just leave it for once instead of selling out to the sappy Hallmark crowd? It was a perfectly good ending as it is was.

Oh filly THERE you are

I was nearly driven to emailing you to discuss HP but thought I should leave you in peace

Wisteria · 24/07/2007 19:03

Alan Rickman can look into my eyes anytime - and I have long red hair so would love to be first understudy to LP if the post is ever offered!

fawkeoff · 24/07/2007 18:50

i loved the way that harry was protecting everyone with the charm of sacrifice.....i was heartbroken when i thought he was going to snuff it for good.....it was like a dementor was sitting in bed with me lol

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:29

PIT of despair, aargh

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:29

i'll tell you what sunk me into a bit of despair

that EPILOGUE

fgs

it read like it was ghostwritten by a 13 yo harry-ginny shipper. I mean, it wasn't just trite and ffs. It was badly written, instant gratification shite.

I agree that tehre should have been more words and that it would ahve been nice to find out what happened to the Dursleys.

Also would have been nice to hear more aobut the DA and those at hogwarts.

MrsWeasley · 24/07/2007 18:20

yes, very

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:19

it was good though, wasn't it?

Pixiefish · 24/07/2007 18:06

I guessed that's what you meant. Was just saying that i've only been able to have the odd hour here and there in the evenings

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:05

lol

I mean 4am THE MORNING IT CAME OUT

have just got home from holidays

now have nothing else to think of save no more hp

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:04

I did also think there should have been more words.

The ending was very rushed. there was no need for that

I wanted to see more of the durseleys
also

Pixiefish · 24/07/2007 18:04

i know what you mean Filly. It took me a few days to read it but I have a3 yo dd and can only read int heevening in between eveything else I need to do but I do feel a bit- so what do I do now

FillydoraTonks · 24/07/2007 18:03

book interesting

dp bought us two copies, and we'd both finished them by 4am

I feel rather bereft now

DobbyMOO · 24/07/2007 17:57

Victoire is definitely a girl - it refers to Teddy snogging her.

Dumbledior · 24/07/2007 17:43

I was really touched when Harry said to Albus that he was also named after the bravest man he had ever known (Albus Severus) - that brought a lump to my throat.

I'm so sad - I was grinning away when I finished the book. It was so good.

persephonesnape · 24/07/2007 17:33

I wasn't so sad at snapes death, just shocked. there had been so many false starts for people dying ( was sure hermione would cop it when she was being crucitused) that i had to read everything from chapter 32 onwards twice. I did think Sev was just too clever to get caught out, although he does keep going on about 'let me bring you the boy, dark lord''. He knows something is up, he's trying to get out.

the line that gets me is when DD says, ' you don't want people to know the best of you' to severus. his whole life loving someone, looking out for her son who reminds him of someone who bullied him at school...all those horrible little children going on about his greasy hair - he just didn't care what he looked like...he just wanted Lily.

great tragic literary hero!

BellaBear · 24/07/2007 16:42

I've just reread the first book, wow they are different - Philosopher's Stone much slicker, much better edited perhaps? As far as I could work out nothing extra to be found from having read the rest of the series. On to the second then!

(Plus PS feels much more like a children's book than the last three, which is of course what they all are!)

Pixiefish · 24/07/2007 16:36

I managed to get it finsihed this morning. I cried buckets when H was going to face V in the forest and his mum and dad were there and he was scared

Dandi · 24/07/2007 16:35

my dh not much of a fiction reader and has never read the HP books, so I am feeling a bit isolated at the mo!

can you imagine how good the last film is going to be when Alan Rickman dies and wants to look into Lily's eyes again....
