Did you ever get there Pruners? I have just read The Accidental Woman and have started on The Night Watch

satyricon · 10/07/2007 09:23

Hmmm, although recommending "the Wasp Factory" to someone and not giving them a tiny, tiny warning does strike me as a tad mean. Pruners, some caution is required here, unless you have a strong stomach.

doughnuts · 08/07/2007 16:48

How Far can you go was my first David Lodge,I think...

Marina · 08/07/2007 12:19

My personal Lodge fave is How Far Can You Go, Hoxty. He's a great writer.
Are you there yet pruners? I sincerely hope so

hoxtonchick · 08/07/2007 09:08

oh, nice work is one of the best books ever.

MintyDixCharrington · 08/07/2007 08:51

doughnuts · 08/07/2007 08:50

oh, just noticed the Crow Road - fab ! Wasp Factory great too. How about Patrick Gale ?

doughnuts · 08/07/2007 08:49

there's a new Kate Atkinson coming out too - just noticed it on back of a newspaper bit but can't find it now.
I'd recommend Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City books.

I just read the Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld, which I enjoyed. I also liked Faulkes' Human Traces, and Shadow of the Wind (Carlos Ruiz Zafon). I've read quite a lot of other books recently which I can't really recommend, those three are the ones I can think of at the mo

Oh and also William Boyd's Unless - not a natural Boyd fan but I thought this was great

doughnuts · 08/07/2007 08:47

love David Lodge too !

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 21:47

Ah, going to a bookshop on a Sunday is MUCH nicer though don't you think?

policywonk · 07/07/2007 20:55

Shame. Make sure you get your turn tomorrow.

Tatties · 07/07/2007 20:54

Ah you see I don't think I have really seen him doing any of the laddish crap. One of his books has a Gabriel in it and I really like that name so he must be ok

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 20:24

I just can't stand that laddish crap

but I seem to be being rather tetchy around the board tonight

am going out for bike ride soon, apologies in the mean time

Tatties · 07/07/2007 20:03

Ok, so do you just not like him or has he done something like reeeaaallly bad? Have I committed a big faux-pas by saying I like his books?

But if it's just me with my weird taste again I can handle that

policywonk · 07/07/2007 20:01

Watcher get watcher get Pruners

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 19:57

Where should I start?

Tatties · 07/07/2007 19:56

What is wrong with David Baddiel?
