Something along the lines of a Song of Ice and Fire, or the Dark Tower series, or Bird Box. Something with strong female characters that aren't just wishy washy wank fodder! Something well written!

I need new books.

The Dark is Rising?

No haven't read that one. Yes to LOTR's. Thanks everyone. I am keeping track of all of these suggestions. I think my kindle is full for the next year at least!

A Gift Upon the Shore has strong female protagonists.
Have you ever read anything by Sheri S. Tepper? I liked "Beauty" best.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 07/01/2019 22:25

Red Sister: fantasy dystopian Mallory Towers
Station Eleven

I assume you’ve read Lord of the Rings?

Reading Wool and I'm absolutely hooked! Especially as the Kindle Unlimited version is done like a graphic novel with pictures, etc. Looking forward to reading all the others as well.

NK Jemisin's The Fifth Season (book 1 of a trilogy)

CrepuscularCritter · 04/01/2019 21:00

And for fantasy I should add the Crystal Singer series by Anne McCaffrey.

CrepuscularCritter · 04/01/2019 20:58

Into The Forest by Jean Hegland has two resourceful female leads.

BaconAndAvocado · 04/01/2019 19:16

Currently reading Vox. The premis is that in the future women are only allowed to say 100 words a day.

I'm about a quarter of the way in and enjoying it.

Emberverse series

  • Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels and Edge series.
  • Sheri Tepper’s Gate to Women’s Country.
  • Brandon Sanderson’s Reckoners series.
Crayolaaa · 03/01/2019 20:31

The End We Start From by Megan Hunter - parenting, love and survival in the UK after a disaster - it's a haunting read and beautifully written.

Mads123 · 03/01/2019 12:12

For the fantasy side I really enjoyed the nevernight series and The red sister, both have very strong female leads.

Timeforabiscuit · 03/01/2019 11:00

The girl with all the gifts

Forest of eyes and teeth (first of a trilogy)

Perhaps re-visit older ones like children of the dust, z for zacharia, on the beach (no female protagonist, but have never forgotten about the crib for some reason)

missbrightside09 · 03/01/2019 10:54

Yes that's the one, halfway through now and really enjoying it.

NoSpend19 · 03/01/2019 10:52

The Power

NoSpend19 · 03/01/2019 10:51

Station eleven

Pemba · 03/01/2019 10:49

Suzy McKee Charnas, 'Walk to the End of the World' and the sequel 'Motherlines' are a real feminist dystopia. Published in the 70s but still fresh seeming and relevant.

I tried Vox as I'd read the hype on Amazon and was looking forward to it but actually it was disappointing. It had one good idea but the world she invented didn't seem fleshed out much or very plausible really.

All great suggestions. I've downloaded the Wool trilogy and I'm keeping a list of the others.
