DS is coming up for 3 and my Mum has said she will get him some books for his birthday. I will order them from Amazon as we live in Spain.
What book have you most enjoyed and would suggest I put on his wish list?

Babar series
Olivia series
Beatrix Potter
Lauren Child (just loved her version of The Princess and the Pea)

SomethingIncrediblyWitty · 27/06/2007 20:01

*The Gruffalo
Monkey Puzzle
*Room on the Broom (although this is quite long)
Dear Zoo
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
*The Snail and the Whale
*The Smartest Giant in Town
*The Very Small
Mog the Forgetful Cat
*Mr Men/ Little Miss books

My 9 year olds were still asking for the ones with asterisks up until a couple of years ago so they are really good value if you can keep 'em in good condition!

ds1's favourite at this age was Duck in The Truck by Jez Albrough, and all the other duck books are good too.
Others we particularly liked:
Into the Castle by June Crebbin (but it seems to be out of print now)
George and the Dragon by Christopher Wormell
The Little Red Train books by Benedict Blathwayt

Yeha I know, I just couldn't quite remember if I was correct with the digger one, so moved on to later pages!
What a busy day now it's time for resting...tell me about it.

Toothyboy · 27/06/2007 19:47

No, "out fall the rocks" is the dumper truck!

Toothyboy · 27/06/2007 19:46
  • see, chicca, every little boy should have Dig, Dig Digging!!
chicca · 27/06/2007 19:46

Oh you are all wonderful!
We've already got Dear Zoo and a few Mogs (and quite a few more besides) but with no bookshop to browse in it's difficult to know what you are missing - now I know!
After 3 children my sister-in-law has a massive collection of books which I don't think she is keen to part with. What do you do with your old books?

Now beginning to doubt my previous post.

Do recall "out fall the rocks...CRASH! Rumbling and tumbling. Superb book. DS adored that from a very young age. reminds me, I might dig that one out for old time's sake!

cheechymunchy · 27/06/2007 19:43

Ploughing up the earth with their tip tip tipping,

Toothyboy · 27/06/2007 19:42

Dig, Dig, Digging.

All together now .."Diggers are good at dig, dig, digging"

JeremyVile · 27/06/2007 19:30

The 'Thats not my.....' series are fab.
We've got
digger
puppy
dinosaur
dragon
train.
Theres loads more.
Very colourful and touchy-feely.

And agree with Dear Zoo, probably ds' favourite currently.

JoanCrawford · 27/06/2007 19:27

Winnie the Witch is good, a firm favourite here.

Another vote for, The Gruffalo.

Kipper's still 'got it' too

bodiddly · 27/06/2007 19:21

Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs .. and all the other books in the series are a huge hit with my 2.4 year old at the moment! He loves all the Hairy Maclary books and anything by the Gruffalo author!

Sazisi · 27/06/2007 18:49

I should add 'Where The Wild Things Are', by Maurice Sendak, brilliant book; fun to read and kids adore it

Sazisi · 27/06/2007 18:39

Hairy Maclary, the Very Hungry Caterpillar, the Miffy books, and Maisy books. We just got one called 'I'm a Happy Hugglewug' which is cite and popullar with DD2
DD2 loves the Mr Men books but I hate reading them!

ktmoomoo · 27/06/2007 18:39

thats it dear zoo love that book thankyou crocky

Crocky · 27/06/2007 18:38

Think ktmoomoo's is Dear Zoo.
We also love Eddie's teddy.

heifer · 27/06/2007 18:35

The Very Hungry Caterpiller - Eric Carle
Ten Tiny Tadpoles - Debbie Tarbett
Toes are to Tickle - Shen Roddie, Kady MacDoinald Denton
Guess how much I love you - Sam McBratney

My DD 3.5 loves all the above - has had them quite a while so they may be for younger children, but she still loves them...

Will write some more when I look at the books upstairs (DH reads to her in bed and I have to admit I have no idea what books are up there, as we have been given loads from friends and family)...
