hoxtonchick · 13/06/2007 09:13

AitchTwoOh · 19/05/2007 01:00

i've got the tv show on tape from when i geekily videoed it all. love AM. hate maryann bitchleton.

i loved those books. really loved. i don't have a single one of them (apart from Maybe the moon, but it doesn't count) as they all got lent out and never given back. i reckon i've bought the whole lot of them a good couple of times... [nostalgic]

yes, I've read Maybe the Moon - that's my signed proof copy - it's not as good as ant TOTC in my opinion, but Arm can do no wrong ! Lucky issymum starting from scratch - I can remember reading my first Armistead on holiday in Italy aeons ago - aah ! You'll like Jonathan Coe too.

No MB, Jon doesn't go to the christmas do - they are reunited in a gay bar in Me-hi-co when Mouse and MaryAnn are on their cruise and she is busy with Burke the amnesiac...

I am so excited about this, it's sitting there on pre-order in my Amazon basket

Issymum · 18/05/2007 11:54

OMG I have never read a book by Armistead Maupin. I say this partly because I'm so happy to find that there is apparently significant pleasure in store for me (Amazon here I come) and partly to make you Maupin Hags envious of me, a Maupin Virgin, with all the thrill of initiation yet to come.

I've also never read anything by Jonathan Coe.

This could be a good summer!

katelyle · 18/05/2007 11:44

REALLY?????

That is so wonderful - I can't believe that Michael is still alive......

Has anyone read Maybe the Moon?

DeviousDaffodil · 18/05/2007 11:40

I am going to have to re read the whole series.

Which is the favourite TOTC ? V hard to choose, possibly Babycakes....
I've met the great man a couple of times at book signings - he signed a printer's proof copy of one book for me which I'm sure will be a valuable thing, though I shall keep it for myself. I was a gibbering idiot of course in my awe.

you do realise we may have to be careful when posting after having read the new one, so as not to spoil it for those still reading it........

Roobie · 17/05/2007 21:19

They are perfect books to get obsessed by

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 21:17

On C4 Ms Dukakis was the perfect Mrs Madrigal

BellaBear · 17/05/2007 21:17

I'd take you on martianbishop... I was obsessed by these!

Roobie · 17/05/2007 21:17

Ch4 series rather than movie

BellaBear · 17/05/2007 21:16

nowhere near as good as teh books obviously

Smutti · 17/05/2007 21:16

Didn't know there was a film... may be a good one for my Amazon rental.

Blandmum · 17/05/2007 21:16

am thinking this should be my specialist subject if I ever did Mastermind.......

BellaBear · 17/05/2007 21:16

The C4 one was good with Laura Linney as Maryann and Paul Gross as Brian (he was in Due South)and Olympia Dukakis as Mrs Madrigal

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 21:15

with the clip-on tie..literally his downfall...class.

Roobie · 17/05/2007 21:15

Anyone rate the film version? I've got it on DVD but not watched for a while - seem to recall it being quite watchable once you adjusted to the actors playing the characters.

Blandmum · 17/05/2007 21:14

A man and a girl. Mona thinks that this is terribly sexist

and Mona's grandmother is a madame in a whore house in the desert in book 2
