Who SHOULD have been Sirius?

I was torn with putting this in film or books, but went with books because that is where the description was...

Was discussing with friends over the weekend that Gary Oldman (as good as he is) just doesn't have the appeal that we felt Sirius had in the book... I can't quite work out who I would have preferred though.

Suggestions?

I have a serious thing for Luceous Malfoy.

He could give me a taste of his Engorgio any time he wanted

weepootleflump · 25/04/2007 18:42

I always pictured Sirius as Ian Brown from The Stone Roses

Dimpled · 25/04/2007 18:34

30mins not 3!!!

Dimpled · 25/04/2007 18:34

perse - me and ds are on some sort of HP quest to get him up to speed so he can anticipate the last book. We have a schedule and a timetable. Chapter a night and we finish HBP two weeks before DH comes out.

A chapter a night sounds fine and worked for the first three books but now we are on OOTP a chapter can take 3mins and if I have been out the night before so need to catch up that is an hours reading!

persephonesnape · 25/04/2007 14:23

difficult if Lupin is good looking as well, because then all of the marauders would irresistable! (except peter..) When i was reading the books, I saw Lupin as being kind of sunken eyed and peely wally - looking a bit under the weather for much of the time.

must re-read OOTP before the film comes out. then i'll need to re read six before seven.

can't wait to see Tonks. hope they change her hair well.

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 14:01

I must say that I did think Thewlis(??) did a great job of Lupin btw. But was surprised they chose him. I did picture Lupin as Goodlooking when I read the books.

Steward · 25/04/2007 13:59

I preferred Richard Harris as Dumbledore No one else could be Snape, only Alan Rickman can do that job. Think Gary Oldman is ok but cannot think who else could do it other then maybe Timothy Dalton. Actor who played Lupin is good.

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 12:51

When I first read the HP books they had pictures in and I picture the characters like that. It must be hard to cast a film.
Do agree Hermione a bit annoying, but think she's good in the first one when she tells Ron he has dirt on his nose. V good attitude. Just how I picture her.

singingmum · 25/04/2007 12:50

When Hermione turns up at the yule ball she's supposed to shock everone with the fact that she's not a plain jane but a stunner.I think the screen Hermione pulls it off very well.
As for the gasping thats surely because she's always rushing to answer first. My son does this as he rushes to say everything

persephonesnape · 25/04/2007 12:46

hermoine is just meant to be this side of the line of plain - it's meant to give hope to young girls that they will blossom in their mid-teens and that theres nothing wrong in being smart rather than pretty - she's a bit dishevelled in the first three/four because she's not all that concerned with her appearence.

i like hermoine. i was a know-it-all swot at school as well.

casbie · 25/04/2007 12:31

but hermione could be like the girl from worst witch, rather than a minature barbie doll!

humph, still peeved!

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 12:26

To be fair I think Hermione is supposed to be annoying.

Has everyone gone??

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 12:25

Is that the guy from Alias?? LOL

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 12:23

Ooh, what about Michael Vartan (??) as Lupin?? Perhaps a bit young and not English tho.

BandofMothers · 25/04/2007 12:22

BACK, no more ideas about Lupin tho

Don't agree about Liv being wooden. But do agree about Hermione. Tho she is supposed to be pretty after her teeth are fixed and she dolls up for the ball with Krum. They just didn't make her plain enough to start with. Altho in the 1st she was quite plain. She's just grown up VERY pretty.

LazyLineJobsworth · 25/04/2007 12:20

Dimpled, I too do not like blondes. I did make an exception for Julian Sark from Alias though.

saltire · 25/04/2007 12:16

Hermione annoys me too, but I think it's the way Emma Watson plays her. Every time she speaks she seems to pause mid sentence, like she's gasping, and I find it irritating.

casbie · 25/04/2007 12:07

on another tack entirely hermoine is thoughly iritating!

she is so stage school she's practically a cut-out.

grrrrr, hermione is supposed to be a plain, clever and quick and sometimes haughty. screen hermione is just lets down the entire female audience with the sweeping hair flicks!

can you tell i really hate her and my dd would be perfect?!

: )

singingmum · 25/04/2007 12:03

Sirius is supposed to be good looking although rough.Didn't mind Oldman though he's not good looking really.
As Dumbledore agree with the fact that the newer one not right.Should have been Sir Ian Mckellan or at the least Patrick Stewart. His voice would have been perfect especially.Think the newer Dumbledore hasn't got some of the quieter pieces right. His voice is not right altogether actually.
Orlando Bloom was not tsappy looking in Pirates. He looked gorgeous(mind you have always had a thing about the whole pirate look )

Dimpled · 25/04/2007 11:44

MB - yes sean is too rough for lupin and too - um - not evil for sirius.

Gary Olman - Lupin
young Ollie Read - Sirius

that's my final word.

Dimpled · 25/04/2007 11:43

persphonesnape - spot on for narsicca.

Oh getting a bit hot in here or is it me?

Lucuis Malfoy is the only blonde I have ever fancied. I really fancy snape too. Does anyone know if they have Kreacher the house elf in the OOP film? not having them in GOF was a real oversight.

Oh - I don;t fancy house elves though!

Agree with everything said about dumbledore. MG bless him doesn't quite do it does he.

Blandmum · 25/04/2007 11:40

Sean Bean is too 'rough' for lupin. Not too rough fo me though........ drool
