Over the years, Marcus has developed and refined recipe after recipe. Whether it’s a quick meal after a hectic day, a recipe to bring your family together or a feast to impress your friends, Marcus brings excellence to every dish that he makes.

In New Classics, Marcus takes the best of time-honoured recipes and puts his own spin on them. What’s more, he creates new recipes that will become much-loved classics in their own right. Here is a book to pore over, to bring inspiration and excitement back into your cooking, and to use again and again.

Marcus’ new book features his own take on classic dishes, as well as dishes he thinks deserve to be classics of the future. I love a good chilli con carne, the perfect classic winter food to tuck into on a cold winters evening. I also love a cottage pie and toad in the hole, all the comfort food!. Mmmm!

BlackSusie2004 · 11/11/2017 19:57

For me, the ultimate classic recipe for comfort and easiness is beef stew and dumplings

Halebeke425 · 11/11/2017 19:39

Can't beat a classic spaghetti bolognaise!

Shepherds pie and lamb stew were my Mum's regular dinners when we were children.

Fiendarina · 11/11/2017 15:42

Lasagne. A good lasagne is a thing of beauty.

bogglebonce · 11/11/2017 15:00

Macaroni cheese with a good dollop of English mustard stirred into it - heaven on a cold evening.

My nan's lemon meringue pie recipe

keriku · 11/11/2017 12:33

Yesterday I made my late granny's recipe - home made lentil soup. Diced veg, gently fried then add smoked ham ribs and lentils and cook for hours. Heaven in a bowl!

My favourite winter type of comfort food has to be a nice bowl of soup with soda scones and then for afterwards it's oven baked rice pudding with generous helping of nutmeg and sultanas through it as it bakes then it's even more sinful as i pour over a drizzle of fresh cream...mmm yummy scrummy and a happy tummy for all:)

jammy388 · 11/11/2017 12:07

Apple pie - have never found one that resembles my grandmother's though.

henbane · 11/11/2017 11:56

Bread & Butter pudding - with lots of nutmeg! It was always a favourite with the kids but my current partner doesn't like it so I only have it now when we're eating out & it's on the menu

agnapoop · 11/11/2017 10:40

My favourite classic recipe is homemade lasagne. If i ever feel down i seem to crave it.

Spink · 11/11/2017 10:34

I keep changing my
Mind about this.. but think Coq an Vin wins it. With a Cherry pie a la mode on the side. (Involuntary dribbling happening here now)

CordeliaScott · 11/11/2017 10:22

I love a good fish pie with prawns and eggs in. Mmm. Pudding wise it has to be bread and butter pudding. They both remind me of being little.

angstinabaggyjumper · 11/11/2017 10:21

Pasta e Ceci.

Sounbelievablydull · 11/11/2017 10:21

Coq au vin so lovely! I get it ready for a Friday night dinner bottle of something bubbly beforehand then the ultimate comfort food to follow lots of mushrooms included !!
Perfect - sometimes even knock together a Black Forest gateaux inspired cheesecake to follow!
It's like the 1970s all over again but without the power cuts !!!

Hatemyjob2 · 11/11/2017 10:15

Cottage pie with peas :)
Although I have been topping it with spiralised sweet potato lately to ring the changes

Sazzle1984 · 11/11/2017 10:14

It has to be chilli for me.

diamantegal · 11/11/2017 10:11

Can't beat a family roast. Although our other family favourite is slow cooked lamb shanks, which has the added benefit of being able to batch cook and freeze!

Anj123 · 11/11/2017 09:47

My classic recipe which always goes down well in my household is salmon cooked in parcels with soy sauce, honey and pak choi, served with sliced potatoes. Simple yet delicious! And healthy!
