What ridiculously trashy books/authors do you love?

Not the likes of Georgette Heyer (not truly trashy IMO), but the really indefensible.

Mine is Cassandra Clare - I'm currently eking out her latest book, ignoring the massive plot holes (and improbable lack of communication without which things would be resolved in about 2 chapters) in the certain knowledge that it'll no doubt end on a cliffhanger which won't be resolved until book 3 in about 2 years time.

Jilly copper is on my list for when I retire

I quite like Jackie Collins. I would be embarrassed to admit that though. Martina Cole too even though all her books are pretty much the same plot with different names.

I like Patricia Cornwell, wouldn't call her books trashy though.

My sister recently lent me the first book in the Captive Prince trilogy. Trashiest thing I've ever read but hot

ScarletSienna · 23/06/2017 22:11

Jilly Cooper! I almost feel that the whole world she created is actually out there...

I went through a Sidney Sheldon phase a fee years ago. Until I realised it was trash it was glamour and entertainment

woollychimp · 23/06/2017 22:07

Sadik, my DCs love Cassandra Clare, they would not be impressed by you describing her books as indefensible and trashy Grin .

Nora Roberts/JD Robb sound like exactly my sort of thing Earthymama.

I used to love Jilly Cooper years ago, perhaps I should re-read them!

Jilly Cooper Blush

I also used to love Maeve Binchy and Catherine Cookson as a teen but not read anything like that recently. I also enjoyed the Patricia Cornwell Kay Scarpetta series, and the Sue Grafton series - A is for Alibi and so on.

Hesitate to call it trashy, but not exactly literary...Marian Keyes.

In the same vein...Maeve Binchy

Both guilty of that most irritating of chick lit/flick tropes...a new dress and an hour with an hairdresser and you can lose 3 dress sizes and 10 years...and gain the man of your dreams (who is likely right under your nose but you will insist on being oblivious to his good looks, great personality and obvious love for you because you fancy a rotter from Accounts)

honeysucklejasmine · 22/06/2017 23:24

Wendy Holden.

Nora Roberts and J D Robb, same author.
I love them!
I know they share the same pattern in every book, I know I shouldn't like them but I really enjoy them and their feel-good endings.
Actually they aren't badly written, just formulaic, HUGELY popular, and classed as romantic.
If I feel in a bad way, need comfort, Nora and J D Robb are my comfort reads.
