I'm reading A slow passion-snails, my garden and me. It's non fiction, written by Ruth Brooks and describes her involvement in a citizen science project. I'm really enjoying it.Despite my massive 'to read' pile I'm wondering what others are reading at the moment!

I read History of The Rain last year, HelenaJustina, it's absolutely gorgeous isn't it? I too never find anybody else who has read it, it sat neglected on my kindle for years, I'm glad I finally got round to it!

I finished Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo yesterday, I thought this was fantastic.

HelenaJustina · 03/06/2017 07:09

I loved All the Light and also A God in Ruins last year.

Has anyone else read History of Rain? I thought it was fantastic and can't find anyone else who's even read it!

Waitingforsherlock · 02/06/2017 22:11

Just finished The Girls by Emma Cline, very disturbing and claustrophobic but read it in a couple of days. Have started Dadland by Keggie Carew but only read a few pages so far.

Ditsy1980 · 02/06/2017 22:04

I loved A Little Life so much. I can't remember the last time I was so invested in a book and characters. I read it last autumn though and I am still broken by it.

I bought The Da Vinci Code in a charity shop yesterday as I had never read it but I am finding it difficult to get into.

I read The Follower on kindle at the weekend and liked it. I do love a good far-fetched serial killer story.

bluebump · 02/06/2017 22:03

I've just read The Handmaids Tale in anticipation of the telly series and also The Circle by Dave Eggers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2017 22:02

Green - 90% or so = superb. Ending is silly and pointless, imvho.

Greenteandchives · 02/06/2017 21:58

Has anyone read 'All the Light We Cannot See' by Anthony Doerr? Any good?

beepbeepimasheep · 02/06/2017 21:56

Stranger child by Rachel Abbott, it's quite disturbing and I can't read it in bed but I can't put it down either

Amethyst975 · 02/06/2017 21:51

The Vesuvius Club by Mark Gatiss. Completely crackers, as you might expect from Mr Gatiss, but right up my street! Wink

MaQueen · 02/06/2017 21:19

Have just started 'City of Mirrors' which is the third book in The Passage trilogy.

I really enjoyed the first book, but think they have really gone off the boil Sad

HelenaJustina · 02/06/2017 20:51

Some utter git on here recommended Chronicles of St Mary's, I started them just before the half term break and am now on book 7 and have book 9 on pre-order...

I do honestly read proper literary things as well. But these are a bit addictive!

AdaColeman · 02/06/2017 20:47

The Robert Harris Cicero trilogy, I'm on the final part now and have really enjoyed it.

Another Dark Tower fan here!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2017 20:38

:( :( :( :( Shhhh. It didn't happen. Just like Dobby didn't happen.

Strummerville · 02/06/2017 20:36

Yeah. I'm not a crier at books, but I had something in my eye at that bit Sad Sad Sad.

And Oy Sad

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2017 20:33

Agree - I think it probably HAD to end like that. Heartbreaking though. And as for the bit by the side of the road with J - I've read them any number of times now, but I always sob my little heart out at that bit.

Strummerville · 02/06/2017 20:11

Oh man, Remus, the last book pretty much destroyed me. I was worried about the ending as I'd heard that some fans HATED it, but I kind of loved it. I realised what was happening and just thought "well, yes. Of course that's how it ends."

Should have read it years ago, but I started The Gunslinger and it didn't grab me so I left it until last year. Then I tried again and got sucked in Grin

buckeejit · 02/06/2017 19:54

Love IQ84 & a little life but still a bit traumatised & raging a couple of months after it. I thought the power was pretty awful though.

I've just finished a lianne moriarty-the last anniversary which was good & had a lot of driving last couple of days so also listened to 'the last act of love' which is v depressing-now 15 mins into 'us' by David Nicholl & hoping for a good audible offer before hols in 2 weeks to stock up, otherwise it will be something Stephen King. I'm really reading the miniaturist & like it a lot.

minsmum · 02/06/2017 19:35

The Plantagenents The Kings who made England by Dan Jones. Enjoying it at the moment.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 02/06/2017 16:48

Another Poisonwood Bible and loving it so far.

milkmoustache · 02/06/2017 16:41

I have just finished A girl is a half-formed thing, by Eimar McBride. Very, very powerful, in subject matter and in terms of her style. Extremely challenging, but I am going to be thinking about it for a long time.

katsnmouse · 02/06/2017 14:32

whatstheplan I loved that book, read it as a student. I've moved on to the keeper of lost things by Ruth hogen. Enjoying it so far.

Strummer - It's wonderful, isn't it? How many packets of tissue did you get through?!

Strummerville · 01/06/2017 20:45

I finished Stephen King's Dark Tower series yesterday (after being immersed in it for the last eight months or so) and still feeling wrung out and bereft, so started his Mr Mercedes today.

OCSockOrphanage · 01/06/2017 20:38

I'm re-reading Sara Paretsky. V I Warshawski is an exceptional chronicler of recent American events in microcosm, and understands the politics, so if you like detective novels and a decent story, with a feminist perspective, they are good reading. With pace and stylish prose too.

nigelsbigface · 01/06/2017 07:35

A little life was amazing.
