Book recommendations for my almost 6-year-old Roald Dahl fan

Dd is working her way through Roald Dahl's books, and is thoroughly enjoying them. But she now says that by comparison, her other books are boring because the writing isn't as good - she likes the descriptive narrative and exciting storylines, and suddenly Milly Molly Mandy and Enid Blyton just don't cut the mustard!

Any recommendations for children's writers who write exciting, imaginative books with similarly good use of language and narrative?

Oh, Pippi Longstocking! I'd forgotten about those

I wondered about Narnia, maybe still a bit young yet.

I haven't come across Susan Cooper either ... my knowledge of children's books is woefully poor!

She's making mutterings about Charlotte's Web, having seen adverts for the film ... was hoping to leave that for a couple of years but it might be worth a go, I guess.

How about The Worst Witch books by Jill Murphy? Oh, and the Pippi Longstocking books by Astrid Lindgren. Actually, all of Astrid Lindgren's books are wonderful but it's not always easy to find them in English.

Narnia Chronicles? She may be too young.
When she is a bit older, give her The Dark is Rising books by Susan Cooper. Fabulous!

I've never come across him before, I don't think. Will have a look, thank you.

Jeremy Strong is good. Try Pandemonium at School - it's very funny. Well, all of his books are funny.

Anyone?

(By the way, the first person who suggests Harry Potter gets a poke in the eye )
