What will you be reading over Christmas?

I might go for The Little Stranger for spookiness, or the next Mrs Tim book in the series I've been reading, Mrs Tim Gets a Job, for comforting familiarity or maybe I'll try Rosamunde Pilcher as recommended here so often.

BUT what about you lot? What are you going to be curled up with as you digest the turkey while reaching for the choccies and swigging sherry by the roaring fire?

My sister gave me The Grand Tour, Natsku. And riffing on a similar theme, she gave me A is for Arsenic by Kathryn Harkup. This is a Christie fan chemist's book cataloging the poisons used in Agatha Christie's books, giving their chemical provenance and also including how they have been used in true crime. My sister then followed it up by giving me Curtain Up: Agatha Christie A Life in Theatre! Somewhat specialist ginormous tomes but still interesting. I'd like to read Come, Tell Me How You Live especially as I know little about anthropology/archeology.

I'm reading Being Mortal but wanted something jollier so have just bought The Secrets of Wishtide by Kate Saunders.

I'm reading A Week in December by Sebastian Faulks. Love it, but is a bit weird given the recent events in Berlin.

Violetcharlotte · 22/12/2016 21:54

Just finished Lynda La Plantes 'Anna Travis' series and started first 'Prime Suspect'. Really into detective fiction at the moment so would welcome any suggestions.

Oh I love a bit of Rosamund Pilcher. The Shell Seekers is one of my ultimate 'cosy reads'.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 22/12/2016 21:46

I'm re-reading Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher ( for the 999999tn time). Off to investigate 'A little stranger'Smile

threestars · 22/12/2016 21:44

I want to finish The Night Circus. It's a beautiful story, but a really busy few weeks at work put paid to any reading over that time.

Natsku · 22/12/2016 21:40

Can't decide. Just finished my current book annoyingly as I'll get books for presents tomorrow but need something to read before then. Maybe Agatha Christie's Grand Tour, or Come Tell Me How You Live.

squoosh · 22/12/2016 21:38

And thank you for reminding me of The Little Stranger. I've been meaning to read that.

squoosh · 22/12/2016 21:37

I've just put Persuasion, Girl on a Train, and The Hand That First Held Mine in my suitcase.

tobee · 22/12/2016 21:36

Under the Net, not Undee, obviously

I'm a slow reader as well LiveLife. Got to finish off Undee the Net by Iris Murdoch which is less than 250 pages on my device and pretty smooth reading.

Ah, Excellent Women , mmack - I loved that!

I have Excellent Women by Barbara Pym and The Trouble with Goats and Sheep by Joanna Cannon lined up. I think Excellent Women will be a perfect book to read with a glass of sherry by the fire.

I'm reading Undee A Pole Star at the moment, and my Christmas book will (hopefully!) be A Strangeness In My Mind by Orhan Pamuk.

SecondaryQuandary · 21/12/2016 14:48

I'm reading a The Tower at the mo and have Norwegian Wood and an MJ Aldridge one lined up.

I have The Little Stranger on the bookshelf and had forgotten about it - let us know what you think of it.

LiveLifeWithPassion · 21/12/2016 14:43

I'm reading The Secret History. I'm really enjoying it but at me pace, I'll probably still be reading it over Xmas.
I might have started a new one by new year though. I'll hang around here for some ideas.

I enjoyed The Little Stranger.
