Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. Supertrash.

choosyfloosy · 02/02/2007 22:01

A bit of Dick Francis keeps me going of a morning.

tirnanog · 02/02/2007 17:29

anything by Patricia Scanlon or Joanna Trollope.

Roobie · 02/02/2007 17:17

Oooh yes, Imogen, Octavia etc by Jilly Cooper.
Lace
Valley of the Dolls
Maeve Binchy
Dick Francis
Adventure thrillers by Desmond Bagley and Alistair MacLean
My all time favourite though ... Victoria Holt historical romances.

MamaGrr · 02/02/2007 17:12

oh yes I really like Fiona Walker as well

I may give them a go Rosa, as I love Penny V so we may have similar tastes

here they are morland if anyone is interested.

RosaLuxembourg · 02/02/2007 17:08

I love Penny Vincenzi too. Also does anyone read Cynthia Harrod-Eagles - long family saga stretching from medieval times to present. I think there are about 30 books so far and she is only at about 1918!

sassy · 02/02/2007 16:30

Love Penny Vincenzi - big fat beach'n'bath reading about v posh people.

Oooh the shame!

Overrun · 02/02/2007 16:20

EarthyMamma, I think you might like my one, I am thinking of trying Laurel K Hamilton as she writes the same sort of stuff I have been told

Overrun · 02/02/2007 16:19

"A hunger like no other" by Kresley Cole, it is a vamp/romance. If that doesn't put you off, it is really compulsive reading.
Warning, very very very trashy and quite steamy
Always trust a former English literature student to put you on to the good ones

Earthymama · 02/02/2007 16:11

Definately Georgette Heyer, I want to be a spirited heroine!!

For modern day trash no-one beats Nora Roberts, and I love the TriLogies eg Black rose, Blue Dahlia, Red Lily. Pure escapism.

I've just discovered Laurel K Hamilton, sort of a Buffy vibe, and lots of fun and games!!

Dinosaur · 02/02/2007 16:02

Did anyone read the Poldark books? I loved them.

expatinscotland · 02/02/2007 16:00

Gotta be Sidney Sheldon's (RIP), 'Master of the Game'.

JackieNo · 02/02/2007 15:57

I love the earlier Jilly Coopers - recently bought a copy of Imogen (whisked off to south of France by glamorous tennis player etc) in a charity bookshop, and enjoyed it all over again - probably hadn't read it since I was 14. Also the odd Judith Krantz, although I think I've given them all away now.

fridascruffs · 02/02/2007 15:46

anothetr jc rider's fan, and georgettete heyer too.

compo · 02/02/2007 15:41

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought Jilly Cooper.
My personal fave is Polo.
Also Fiona Walker - Snap Happy, Well Groomed etc

CAMy · 02/02/2007 15:40

Yes to Valley of the Dolls, was glued to it at age 14 or so, also The Virgin Soldiers and The Carpetbaggers.

Also the Bond books.

hotandbothered · 02/02/2007 15:37

The Thorn Birds

RosaLuxembourg · 02/02/2007 15:04

My favourite trash - but really good trash IYSWIM - is Georgette Heyer's Regency novels. Nothing like Sprig Muslin when you're tucked up in bed with a nasty cold.

mamama · 02/02/2007 14:40

Another vote for Riders

Also, for easy reading, Marian Keyes & co - girly, light hearted reading. It's about all I can manage at the moment!

choosyfloosy · 02/02/2007 14:35

Well, posturing is pushing it I suppose, she's v funny about it. But for example, she talks about Rachel's Holiday as 'a novel about recovering from drug addiction' and that it being described as 'forgettable froth' by a journalist showed that she hadn't read it. Hmmm. Perhaps trash is pushing it too! but it's light fiction with a head and a heart. Not art.

ShowOfHands · 02/02/2007 12:32

Oh yes Light a Penny Candle, utter trash but requiring a sequel.

Also read the Virginia Andrews Flowers in the Attic series when I was 14ish and loved them at the time.

I'm too embarrassed to read trash now as I'm a librarian and my colleagues would feather and tar me. I do, however, read some of DH's fantasy fiction but I hide it in a proper book first.

MamaGrr · 02/02/2007 12:28

I love Marian Keyes, I don't count her as trash

Yes, love Rivals too but Riders was my first JC read, so its a firm fave

anyhoo, i would have to say then, hollywood wives, by Jackie Collins, Watermelon by Marian Keyes and Pandora by Jilly Cooper are my top three faves !
