Set aside the Gina, silence the baby-whisperers and shelve the Jo Frost manuals. This is the book to make new mothers feel better about themselves.

No tips, no advice, no routines, no philosophies - just an honest account of two writers' adventures in the twenty-first century Motherland.

Alex and Sarah are two mothers and lifelong friends, whose hilarious book is the perfect antidote to all the smug, scolding, impossible-to-achieve tomes of advice that are passed around baby yoga classes up and down the country.

I never thought I could feel so much love when my DT ask me for a cuddle.

I never thought I would enjoy theme parks, childrens shows so much because the DT love them and I love seeing them happy.

I never thought I would enjoy teaching my children so much and feel so proud when they learn to ride a bike or tie a shoelace.

I never thought I would get the small stuff, and have so much fun with a tea towel and a couple of cushions.

Redroses11 · 26/02/2016 01:29

I never thought that I would love someone until I gave birth to my daughter.

putthePuffindown · 26/02/2016 00:27

Never thought I'd create a poo spreadsheet Blush

philosophicmum · 25/02/2016 22:39

I never thought I would answer 'why?' questions with 'because I said so.'

I also never imagined that I wouldn't turn a hair at scrubbing poo off a heap of Lego.

BeBesideTheSea · 25/02/2016 22:37

I never thought I would view going to the supermarket as precious me-time and the highlight of my week. Because I was alone and baby DS was With DH. (I still caught myself regularly pushing the trolley, sans baby, back and forth in a soothing pram-like manner)

Never thought I'd roll out the old phrase that my mum would say when we were young & complaining about our dinner-'there's starving children in the world you know...'

6yo was whinging the other night that he didn't like his dinner, yada yada. I said 'there's starving children in the world you know...'

He started crying and said 'I know, and I'm one of them!'

I never thought I would effectively be back at school again, year after year, school gates at 8 45 and 3 25 Sith bary any respite.

katienana · 25/02/2016 20:52

I never thought I'd just accept it when poo got on my hand, that I wouldn't be sick or groan or anything but just go oh okay best clean that. I never thought I'd casually hold out my hand for DS to be sick into. I never thought I'd approach builders to ask what they were doing so ds could have a closer look. I never thought I'd love someone so much I'd do literally anything to make them happy!

Ploy · 25/02/2016 19:43

I didn't know I'd dream of delousing a child's head and find a world record breaking lArge head louse.

WelliesTheyAreWonderful · 25/02/2016 19:26

Never thought I would carrying on wearing the same jeans (all day) after someone puked up on me Blush

mrsdiddlydoo · 25/02/2016 19:24

I never thought I 'd spend my days talking about poo so much or that trips to Wetherspoons and Pizza Express would become some of the highlights of my year.

Lovemylittlebears · 25/02/2016 18:20

Making up songs about the importance of washing hands, weeing on the toilet and not in your pants, brushing your teeth and standing still whilst having your bum wiped! X

BornToFolk · 25/02/2016 15:32

Similar to Solo, I never thought I'd end up doing it on my own...and coping pretty bloody well.

loosechange · 25/02/2016 14:55

Eat leftover children's food. I remember thinking my friends was nuts when she mentioned in passing she ate leftovers rather than bothering to cook tea, and privately swearing I would never do that....

CheeseEMouse · 25/02/2016 14:22

I never thought that I would regard being woken up only twice in one night as a good nights sleep.

Woodenmouse · 25/02/2016 13:39

I never thought I'd be absolutely fine with random people seeing me in a very vulnerable position. I had two midwives in during ds1 birth and they asked if a trainee doctor could come and observe. I was so focused on the birth I don't think I would have cared if a whole army had come into the room!

Kraggle · 25/02/2016 12:54

I never thought I'd class 7am as a lie in.
I was also never going to let my child eat chocolate/sweets/biscuits/McDonald's/kfc or watch the tele. She eats all those things and CBeebies is almost on constantly when we're at home!

mupperoon · 25/02/2016 12:47

I never thought I'd be one of those mums who dresses like their daughter.

However, by chance/tiredness/lack of clean clothes we've occasionally ended up wearing almost identical outfits - of the jumper, jeggings and boots variety, not babygros or flouncy pink dresses, I hasten to add! Even so, I felt like a prize plum, especially since she's 18 months and I'm 43.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 25/02/2016 11:54

I never thought I'd talk about / look at / smell / man-handle as much poo as I have.

OnMyShoulders · 25/02/2016 10:59

I never thought I'd change so much. I am a completely different person after 14 years and 5 children.

BathshebaDarkstone · 25/02/2016 10:33

Tell a virtual cat on Minecraft to shhh. I think it pines for DD when she goes to eat breakfast or get washed! Grin

ldt87 · 25/02/2016 10:23

I never thought I would consider 6am a lie in! Hmm I never thought I'd enjoy being a stay at home mum as much as I do.

Solo · 25/02/2016 10:22

I never thought I'd have to do it on my own from the very beginning of the pregnancy with Ds and I never thought I'd be an extremely strong woman (probably because of it). I never thought I'd share almost everything with my Dc's and I never thought I'd turn into my own mother...

asuwere · 25/02/2016 10:20

I never thought I would turn into my mother but I realise I am...I never thought I would like becoming my mother but I actually don't mind, I have so much more respect for her and would be proud to be close to the mum she is Smile

I also never thought I would get so emotional about such simple things.

coffeeisnectar · 24/02/2016 22:39

I never thought I'd feel so intensely protective of my children.

And I never thought I'd be stood in the bathroom doorway while dd is sat on the loo with a poo in her hand and we are both looking at it to check for worms.
