I've nearly finished The Storyteller and I'm in need if a little light relief. TIA

I know this is a bit cheeky, but I've just published an ebook - a comedy diary called 'Diary of a Stressed Out Mother' on Amazon, and would love some feedback from people who love funny books. Please download the free sample and let me know what you think!

The Tent, the bucket and me

Anything by Jasper Fforde

Definitely P G Wodehouse and Three Men in a Boat

Ditto Provincial Lady - warm nice chuckle-inducing book.

sherlocksteacup · 18/03/2015 18:53

Ok not highbrow but when I read Nick Spalding's "Love from both sides " and the subsequent books in this series I almost wet myself (not entirely due to decimated pelvic floor). It's cruder than I normally find funny but I laughed in spite of myself (clutching my pearls of course)

The Gunseller by Hugh Laurie or Bossypants by Tina Fey.

JP32 · 18/03/2015 17:55

'A Fraction of the Whole' by Steve Toltz. Every single page has an eminently quotable brilliantly hilarious line.

Diary of a Provincial Lady - I've read it countless times and it's still funny

Canyouforgiveher I am working through the audio books of AT read by Timothy West which I strongly recommend. He is the perfect voice for Trollope and very funny. There is a friendly Trollope Appreciation group on FB (assuming you're not one of those who avoids FB as work of the devil!).

Provencalroseparadox · 25/02/2015 10:12

Jeeves and Wooster and, trashily, The Diary of a Slummy Mummy.

Canyouforgiveher · 25/02/2015 02:07

Cooroo,

my brother in law read Trollope (and Mapp and Lucia and Carp etc) on my recommendations. He said that the scene where Rev. Crawley in The Last Chronicle of Barsetshire says "Peace Woman" to Mrs. Proudie and Bishop Proudie "starts at hearing the wife of his bosom thus addressed" are among the funniest he has read.

We should have a Trollope appreciation thread.

(One of my dds is Alice and I think it might be because of Alice Vavasour ... maybe)

Cooroo · 24/02/2015 23:05

CanYouForgiveHer thank you for reminding me of Augustus Carp. Must re-read! Smile at fellow Trollope fan!

CoddledAsAMommet · 23/02/2015 19:38

The two funniest books I've ever read - to the point where I daren't read them in public for fear of laughing til I was blue in the face- we're Lucky Jim by Kinglsey Amis and A Confederacy Of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Both laugh out loud funny and brilliant writing.

26milesofcbeebies · 23/02/2015 19:30

Bill Bryson, particularly Down Under and A Walk In The Woods.

I like Marion Keyes too, Rachel's holiday is my favourite of her's.

Georgette Heyer is good, more amusing than hilarious. The Grand Sophy made me laugh out loud though.

trashcanjunkie · 16/02/2015 11:20

Did Augusten Burroughs do 'running with scissors' tams?

It was similar to my experiences growing up Blush...

DoctorTwo · 16/02/2015 04:20

Not fiction but I recently read War Reporting For Cowards by Chris Ayres. It's a true story of a Hollywood reporter reluctantly going to Iraq as an embedded journalist with an American artillery unit.

howcomes · 16/02/2015 03:31

Deric Longden, a mix of funny, happy and sad. Also good if you like cats!

TamsinInBed · 15/02/2015 02:56

Anything by Augusten Burroughs. Vv funny and awful at the same time, quite dark humour so not for everyone. "Dry" is brilliant.

TamsinInBed · 15/02/2015 02:46

Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler

trashcanjunkie · 15/02/2015 01:57

Good Omens by Gaimen (sp) and Prattchet.

HopeClearwater · 15/02/2015 01:00

Three Men in a Boat.

Fortysomething by Nigel Williams. Snorted my way through that one.

Viviennemary · 09/02/2015 19:21

I second Adrian Mole. Even I laughed.

itsveryyou · 06/02/2015 16:36

Jenny Lawson is hilarious. Her book 'Let's pretend this ever happened' is brilliant.

sooperdooper · 06/02/2015 16:06

Another vote for How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran, and I'm reading Jennifer Saunders autobiography Bonkers at the moment and that's very funny too

Pukkapik · 05/02/2015 13:49

Deaf Sentence - David Lodge. I laughed out loud several times.

Fiendarina · 05/02/2015 12:37

Came on to say E.F Benson's Mapp and Lucia novels, Nancy Mitford and Cold Comfort Farm, but they've all been covered so will exit stage left.

More recent stuff: Kathy Lette, early ones in the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series and Jen Lancaster's "Bitter is the New Black" all had me laughing out loud when I first read them, but I don't tend to return to them as much as the others.
