Am reading Martina Cole - The Jump, usually find her books quite depressing but thought I would give this one a go.

MsBionic · 04/10/2006 15:57

My sisters keeper is brilliant!

Best of luck...you never know!!

maycontainstress · 04/10/2006 15:53

MsBionic, I read just about anything. I really love to get a recommendation because it saves time perservering with something wishy washy.

I've got a copy of My Sister's Keeper at home which I picked up at the boot sale, maybe that's next?

I read anything but it has to be believable and either make me laugh or cry, or both. Give me emotion!

'whispers' I'm about to send something I've written myself to an Agent for a predictable rejection, its entertaining me anyway

MsBionic · 04/10/2006 15:51

Now there's dedication suedonim. I've heard good things about that book

suedonim · 04/10/2006 15:49

I'm reading We Need To Talk About Kevin. It's about the fifth or sixth time I've attempted it and it's finally grabbed me.

MsBionic · 04/10/2006 15:35

bran I know exactly what you mean. I gave up..

Milliways · 04/10/2006 15:13

Bran, I am reading the Labyrinth & really enjoying it (but v.near the end now!). Just finished The Time Travellers Wife & have a whole stack of books lined up. (Both parents work in charity shop so we give them our Wish Lists!)

Cowmud · 04/10/2006 15:11

stepahnie Plum good reads

expatinscotland · 04/10/2006 15:09

Life got in the way, bran.

BUT, I'm happy to say I'm thinking of doing it again.

B/c, in all honesty, it's a lot of fun! [romantic fiction, that is].

I'm reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse, and I'm finding it really heavy going, I just can't bring myself to give a damn about the main characters.

I've only read 2 Anita Shreve books and I quite liked them, but not enough to go out and buy everything she's ever written and read them all at once which is what I tend to do when I find a new writer that I really like.

Expat why did you stop writing? Did you get bored or did it not pay all that well?

PretendFriend · 04/10/2006 15:02

I have just read all 4 books currently available by Clare Chambers - I found her via an amazon suggestion (forget what from, possibly Laurie Colwin, she is in my about-to-read pile) and she is fab (Back Trouble is a bit dodgy as it's in the first person and supposed to be by a bloke, that never works).

multitasker · 04/10/2006 15:00

Can't be doing with A Shreve, am on The Night Watch at mo and fancy Jane Eyre next. Also newish Joanne Harris - Gentlemen and Players - anyone read it?

bakedpotatooooowoooh · 04/10/2006 15:00

The Laughing Policeman by Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo. Have two others in the series lined up for next, and then if I ever shake this obsession with Scandinavian detective novels Ali Smith's The Accidental

Intrigued indignatio ....disturbing how??

doggiesayswoof · 04/10/2006 14:51

My lover's lover by Maggie O'Farrell. I think her books are great but I do find them a bit emotionally draining. Before that I read The Accidental by Ali Smith which I just loved from start to finish - so I've got Hotel World by her next. Then I might try some Iain M Banks - I've never tried his sci-fi stuff.

brimfull · 04/10/2006 14:51

I'm reading "A Year of Wonders" by Geraldine brookes ..I think that's her name. It's about the plague and how this town in derbyshire decided to quarantine themselves to stop it spreading.Quite good, unusual.Apparently based on truth.

indignatio · 04/10/2006 14:50

Call me Elizabeth - v disturbing

MsBionic · 04/10/2006 14:50

Yes I've read The Pact and it was good. The only one I havent read is Keeping Faith which i will get after I've finish Predator by Partica Conwell (she's fab!)

MsBionic · 04/10/2006 14:48

maycontainstress what kind of books do you like?

kslatts · 04/10/2006 14:47

Hi MsBionic, I have read My Sister's Keeper, I agree it was one of my favourites too. I have also read Vanishing Acts which I also enjoyed. Have you read The Pact? I've heard it's one of her best.
Kslatts

maycontainstress · 04/10/2006 14:34

I'm reading Light On Snow by Anita Shreve at the moment. Its easy reading but I'm not exactly gripped, as in, I couldn't be arsed to find out what happens next. I may or may not finish it.

Not sure what's next, I want something to get me teeth into.

MsBionic · 04/10/2006 13:57

kslatts have you read My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult yet? It's my fav of all her books.

I also really liked The Time Travellers Wife - Weird but wonderful

saltire · 04/10/2006 13:54

i know what you mean Jackie, i felt a bit let down, especially as there was such a lot written about the "crimes" george had allegedly comitted.
Not saying too much in case anyone not read it

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 04/10/2006 13:31

I felt a bit let down by the ending of 'Arthur and George', Saltire - somehow inconclusive, and I wanted a big denouement, which never came.
