I liked The Hunger Games and Harry Potter. I've just discoverd the Lockwood and Co ones by Jonathan Stroud. They are about hunting for the sources of ghosts, I really enjoyed the first and I am part way through the second and I'm really enjoying it.

I really liked:

The Testing Trilogy

unwind series - though very disturbing

Takver · 31/10/2014 15:31

I just read Fangirl, which I found very amusing, nice change from all the dystopian stuff, and a great lighthearted portrait of being socially awkward and 18.

The Matched trilogy by Ally Condie is really good.

It's quite Hunger Games-esque, which I also loved. Read the second book in the space of 36 hours.

Matched is also, predictably, being made into a film.

Harry Potter
Hunger Games
Twilight
The Ravens Gate series
The Gone series
Skulduggery Pleasant
The Enemy series
The Pittacus Lore books
Maze Runner
Pratchett's Tiffany Aching books

I love a YA book!

AnitaWilson75 · 23/10/2014 17:25

I really enjoyed the Philip Pullman trilogy and Malorie Blackman's Noughts and Cross trilogy.

Galaxymum · 22/10/2014 21:17

I love the Fallen series by Lauren Kate. I love the passion in the characters - it's about fallen angels and I completely buy into the mythology of this world. I am a 40 year old fangirl and took all my books for Lauren Kate to sign. Movie has just been made so many will be jumping on the bandwagon!

I love the Hunger Games too. We Were Liars is good. Also How I Live Now. And oh I adore John Green's writing.

Try the Delirium series too. I think it is more effective than Divergent.

quesadillas · 22/10/2014 10:26

The Basic Eight, but can't remember who by. Some annoying characters, but an interesting story.

emmeline7725 · 21/10/2014 19:01

The Noughts and Crosses series by Malorie Blackman are fantastic.

As is A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

I recently read Acid by Emma Pass, it was brilliant and all my year 10 class loved it too.

Kasterborous · 21/10/2014 13:01

I'd forgotten about the Artemis Fowl ones I enjoyed those. Also the Alex Rider ones by Anthony Horowitz.

I quite enjoyed the Young Bond ones and The Enemy series both by Charlie Higson.

elkiedee · 20/10/2014 13:58

I'm reading a Diana Wynne Jones at the moment and I know a lot of grown up fans of her work, including the ones that are probably children's books rather than YA.

I've read Divergent and I have the next one on Kindle, also lots of others.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 20/10/2014 12:27
Sad
punygod · 20/10/2014 12:20

No, I had no idea. I really thought he and Jenny would get out. I thought a children's book would have some hope at the end.

I was so gutted I threw it to the other end of the sofa Blush

Most upsetting book I've read for a long time. Particularly the cannibal bit at the very end. Heartbreaking. Hmm

TunipTheUnconquerable · 19/10/2014 19:35

Punygod, did you know what was going to happen?
It took me ages to psych myself up to read The Bunker Diary because I knew how bleak the ending was, but in the end I found it surprisingly not bleak, despite what happened - I think because the main character is so decent and kind. But it might be that I was insulated from the full effects by knowing the end.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 19/10/2014 19:33

Wonder is amazing. It makes me want to hug the author, all the characters and everyone else who's ever read it.
How did the author manage to tell that story and NOT be overly sentimental or mawkish or manipulative?

defineme · 19/10/2014 16:16

Wonder by R J Palacio -it has made both men and women I know weep. I read it whilst walking along at one point. It has all the beauty and brutality of adolescence wrapped up in a story about what it is to be different.

punygod · 19/10/2014 16:15

I've read The Bunker Diary Hmm

Chocolateorangegirl · 19/10/2014 16:11

I love YA fiction. Especially science fiction and fantasy, so much more original and female friendly than adult stuff.

Harry Potter
Percy Jackson
The Kane chronicles
His Dark Materials
Hunger games
Ink heart

I highly rate anything by Tamora Pierce who specialises in she-roes!

Kathy reichs "virals" series is good :)

TunipTheUnconquerable · 19/10/2014 15:49

Maryz have you read Brooks' The Bunker Diary? If so what did you think?

TunipTheUnconquerable · 19/10/2014 15:48

The Uglies books were amazing.
I read the last one recently, Extras, which is a few years down the line from the others and everybody is obsessed with their social media popularity ranking. Very prescient!

Another scifi one I loved is Feed by M.T.Anderson, where people have the internet implanted in their brain and go on holiday to the moon Smile

Unwind by Neal Shusterman is seriously good but you will wish you hadn't. I wish I hadn't. It's Hullygully's fault though to be fair she did warn me.

Takver · 19/10/2014 13:38

I've been reading quite a lot of YA fiction largely because dd gets to the library more often than I do, so it's easy to just pick up whatever she's last read Grin

Liked: Divergent (a lot, but not so keen on the sequels), Uglies series, Hunger Games, Artemis Fowl (earlier books, thought they went down hill later in the series), Raven Boys (dd didn't like this one, so haven't read the sequels), anything by Frances Hardinge, anything by Diana Wynne Jones (in fact I can never figure out which are meant to be adult & which YA)
Wasn't so keen on Cat Patrick's books (Revived / The Originals)
