Can I join? I joined the 50 books thing but im such a slow reader I reckon 12 is far more realistic. Just picked ip one ftom 12 days of kindle - copycat by gillian white. Not my normal type of book but will let you know

I decided to start with the Night Circus, and after page 18 I'm really hooked, which is always a good sign in a book! Had just read the road by Cormac Mccarthy, but it took me 100 pages to get interested

Babylonmood Have you looked at the 12 days of kindle deals? There are loads of good books for 99p or £1.49. I've bought about 4 so far including Gone Girl.

Can I join please? Seem to have lost my reading mojo recently, but 12 books sounds manageable.

Babylonmood · 01/01/2014 11:18

Ooooh - I loved The Gone Girl

Babylonmood · 01/01/2014 11:12

Hi. Very varied. Have enjoyed worthy classics in the past but brain not up to it at the moment. Modern novels I've enjoyed recently are: the time travellers wife; In the Line of Beauty; The Slap; anything by Margaret Atwood; The Midwives' Confession: Swamplandia; The Poisonwood Bible (blub); Running the Rift; Fingersmith;

I have a kindle so cheap kindle stuff is good.

I'm going to try this this year (again, say it every year). I think I might alternate between a classic I "should" have read and a more modern novel. I'll watch here to see what gets recommended.

craftynclothy · 31/12/2013 13:17

Me! There is no way I could read 50 books in a year (unless I'm allowed to count my course materials).

I've just finished The Husband's Promise and really enjoyed it, I read it in 4 days I think and I've not read a full length novel for a few years Shock (I'm studying so don't get a lot of time and when I do I tend not to read as I need a break from staring at words on a page).

Have downloaded a couple of books from the 12 days of kindle sale so my first book of the New Year will either be Frisky Business or Eternally North.

Beechview · 31/12/2013 12:56

What kind of books do you like reading Babylonmood?
When I got back into reading, I enjoyed

Into The Darkest Corner - Elizabeth Haynes (it was recommended here)
The Help - Kathryn Stockett
Cuckoo - Julia Crouch
Some Alexander McCall Smith and a fair bit of trashy supernatural romance stuff free on my kindle app Blush :)

Yes I would like to join you. Since having a baby my attention span has fizzled to nothing. I would like to spend less time here flitting about and more time reading books. If I start easy I can build up to worthy. Any recommendations?

isleangel · 31/12/2013 12:38

I'll join you - no way I'll ever read 50, (unless I abandon real life entirely), but I think I managed 14 this year, so would like to read more next year. For books I'm in a dilemma over which to start with - The night circus or angelmaker
