hmmm. we don't seem to have books like this in our schools.

Could this be why our social problems are so much greater than the Scandinavians?

Hmmm, I shall ponder.

Fillyjonk · 04/06/2006 19:17

wow

\link{http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/lagerlof/nils/nils.html\online too!}

that does look nice...

TooTicky · 04/06/2006 19:15

Originally written for use in schools, to educate children about Sweden. Nils is a bad, unhelpful boy who gets turned small and travels around Sweden on the back of a goose. Beautifully written. I got mine from ebay, then - joy of joy - quite by chance found the sequel in a little second hand bookshop in Bradford-on-Avon. Selma Lagerlof's memoirs are also well worth reading. Incidentally, Nils Holgersson on the goose and Selma Lagerlof are featured on the Swedish 20kronor note. Don't buy one for a silly price on ebay as they are still in use and 20SEK is less than £2.

Rhubarb · 04/06/2006 19:09

wtf??

Fillyjonk · 04/06/2006 19:07

no, but it sounds scandinavia. talk more.

TooTicky · 04/06/2006 18:48

Has anybody else read The Wonderful Adventures of Nils Holgersson by Selma Lagerlof?

LittleMy · 04/06/2006 12:28

I think you'll find that's the Hemulen's Aunt

Whats going to happen, I wonder?

TooTicky · 04/06/2006 12:03

TheThreeFillyjonks, it's me, what do you think?

anorak · 04/06/2006 11:56

I collect signed books. I have about 30, I think.

azroc · 04/06/2006 11:54

Telephone booth? Great. There are two in the village. I think I'll get funny looks though...
Actually, it might get too confusing with another Fillyjonk. There may be more lurking, too anxious to join in. I wondered if I was more of a Moominmamma, or is that just wishful thinking. Besides, there's probably one of those already. Too-Ticky? Maybe. I'm not sweet enough to be a Snork Maiden. Oh, I'm no good at decisions, which is why I always use my rather excessive initials as a username...

TheThreeFillyjonks · 03/06/2006 20:00

OK.

Find a telephone booth

Step into it.

Close the door.

Spin round.

That should do it.

(if its easier, you could click on the your registration button above, then change your name once you've logged in. But I think that way is for wimps)

azroc · 03/06/2006 19:47

So how do I change?

TheThreeFillyjonks · 03/06/2006 19:36

Actually, fillyjonks increase by geometric progression.

Come on in, azroc! PLenty of Fillyjonks to go round!

azroc · 03/06/2006 19:32

So, does three Fillyjonks plus ThethreeFillyjonks make four or six? Should I become a Fillyjonk too?Grin

littlerach · 03/06/2006 19:15

I have nearly all the Little house books, there are some that were written "in the style of..." that I havenm't bothered with, but may do later.

I also collect hard back Enid Blytons, mainly because I have lots that were given to me as a child.

Also the older style Noddy books.

And I seem to have been subconciously collecting Read it Yoiusrelf and Well Loved Tales for DD1.

Just remembered I also have a lot of the Proper Topsy and Tim books, again from childhood, and I do look around for these a lot.
