to be played by Tom Cruise???! Really?!

Look at the movie trailer on IMDB if you get a chance...he's at least a foot too short & is nothing like you would imagine Reacher to be. :( It could have been so good.

(Was going to post in movies...but you'd need to have read the books to know what I'm on about)

Hello there! Ive joined mumsnet just for this thread! I was so excited to see the film was coming out(and yes i knew about the cruise situation!) was willing to give cruise the benefit of the doubt even though he is no reacher! But having seen the trailer im soo disapointed already!
As for who could play reacher i think liam neesom with a few days stubble would have been perfect! Tom cruise is too clean(not to mention short, slim and totally the wrong colouring!)
Was not completly thrilled with the book they went for to make the film but hey they obviously liked it!
Am gonna drag the husband along to see it but im not holding out much hope and hope if they make another film they learn by this one!

I always think of Christopher Eccleston in his Doctor Who jacket when I think of Reacher. But I think this is one movie where they could have gone for a completely unknown actor, someone that no-one had ever heard of, and still had a box office smash. As it is, they're going to lose millions of viewers who would just say "no way!" to Tom Cruise.

Theres pictures on the mail website of Tom with Suri today . He is wearing skinny jeans. Reacher would never wear skinny jeans

Oh no, just no. Cruise is a weirdo dwarf and Reacher is tall macho sex on legs.

The WHOLE SODDING POINT of most of the plot points of the books is that he is tall. Big. Not creepy midget dwarf person.

I have been a fan of these books since day 1 and will continue to be but there is no way on God's earth I am going to watch this movie.

Casting an unknown would be better but Daniel Craig would work for me,

Yes, a friend of mine says she imagines Russell Crowe. I don't really like him, but could handle him being Reacher.

Yeah the janitor from Scrubs would be a much better Reacher than TC! I think the best fit in physical terms would be the actor who was Russell Crows side kick in Gladiator. I forget his name but he's a ex-wrestler and very big. Probably not famous enough for the box office though. If we have to go for a smaller man to get the big name actor then I think Russell Crow himself would be a better bet than TC. He has that rougher look that I think of as Reacher - TC is too much of a pretty boy.

Its not just about TC height though is it, even if he was 6 foot he would still be a crap Reacher.

I'd imagine that Lee Child means that the rumours about TC's sexuality are what is causing the backlash. Not the fact he is knee-high to a grasshopper.

Better than an unconcealed shortophobia, LOL. Let's be honest, those of us happier with the idea of Shrek playing Reacher are hardly likely to be bothered about a human, gay or straight provided they are semi-convincing.

Will the films be good though? Half of what makes the books readable is Jack's thought processes and his hunky body. How that is going to translate to film is anybody's guess. Maybe people who haven't read the books will enjoy them more.

Even DH would make a better JR than TC, the creepy shortarse - at least he tops six foot .

Even LC himself would make a better JR.

But LC will be LOL'ing all the way to the bank. Think of the explosion in book sales, let alone the film rights.

Jason stratham is a bit annoying and dors a shockingly bad american accent.
Had not thought about Liam Neeson or Daniel Craig. Ineteresting.
I was just reading something online about LC talking about it at the thriller writers convention. Saying that yes while TC doesn't match the JR desciption, they were not unindated with 6 foot 5, 250lbs actors
