The film was v good. And it didn't come over as "important white lady acts as saviour for black ladies".

sonicrainboom · 23/02/2012 20:55

I really enjoyed it until I realized it was an "important white lady acts as saviour for black ladies" story. It left a bad aftertaste because the story is supposed to be anti-racist and I thought that in this age, it should be ok to write black characters who manage to do things on their own.

I listened to the audiobook which was fab; the three women reading all had great voices and really brought the book to life.

Well that a lot of positive comments. I am hoping to have an early night so I can read some more

I enjoyed the book- wanted to get deeper into the topic.
Also went to see the film- and expected it not to be great- but enjoyed it.

The book was great, but I'd love the author to write a sequel so we could find out how the characters progressed. I thought the novel was too short - I didn't want it to end :o.

bigbadbarry · 23/02/2012 14:33

The film was better than many book adaptations, the casting is perfect but of course they miss things out. The book is lovely :)

beeny · 23/02/2012 14:30

Book is great.

50p is a great bargain for a lovely book. Haven't seen the film and am usually so disappointed by film adaptations that I gave it a fairly wide berth.

LouMacca · 23/02/2012 11:16

Love that book. Also got my copy at a charity shop last year (not 50p tho!)

Enjoyed the film a lot, great casting, but films that are as good as the book are few and far between - can't think of one off the top of my head......

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/02/2012 11:05

I loved it - couldn't put it down . It's a real feel good book.
