I am reading Julian Barnes The Sense of an Ending. Loving it.
Also Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I have never read them before Blush but am in the process of reading them to/with ds and thoroughly enjoying them.
Have got so many books piled up to read it is really quite exciting!

I read The Help yesterday straight through. It's been a long time since I read all evening and I finished at 1.15. Damn you Kindle app on IPad and Amazon for making books so cheap and easy to buy.

Am about to start a Jeffrey Archer, guilty pleasure Blush

clippityclop · 02/01/2012 20:16

Madonna of the Almond Blossoms, historical fiction set in 1500s Italy. By the author of Glassblowers of Murano which I enjoyed hugely.

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2012 20:12

it is one weird book, not much to do with the Prague cemetery so far as I could make out tbh but I wilted at the description of a Black Mass. Was more than I felt like knowing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2012 20:11

I tried reading an Eco one once (Rose something?) and thought it was appalling. Have been to the Prague Jewish cemetery and it was v interesting irl but maybe not as a book!

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2012 20:10

Had to look. Olivia Manning : Fortunes of War. (WW2 British couple drifting about Romania, Greece, Egypt etc. There was a tv series on it a while back)

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2012 20:08

Umberto Eco: The Prague Cemetery. Have flicked through and read a bit here and there, also the first chapter. It is decidedly strange IMO, not really me.

Something about the history of buildings. A few famous buildings and the history around them but trudged through the introduction and couldn't face more.

Few things like that. Mixed bag. Nice of people to buy them but nothing holds my attention

Tobermory · 02/01/2012 20:07

Have just enjoyed a Twilight marathon on my new kindle, back to work tomorrow though so much less time for reading :(

Keeping my eye on this thread for my 'wish list'

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2012 20:06

What are they Zzzen? Nosey!

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2012 20:04

nothing. Keep picking things up and reading a couple of pages and putting them down again. Had some strange books as Christmas presents. Maybe they are not too bad and I am just strange at the moment.

Might try some non-fiction instead

eatyourveg · 02/01/2012 20:02

Julian Barnes here too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2012 19:53

Ooh that history of women and madness sounds right up my street! I read a history of Bedlam last year but was disappointed because it was pretty superficial and had 'padding' in place of info in several places, I felt.

LucyFarinelli · 02/01/2012 19:40

I'm reading "Red Mist" by Patricia Cornwell. Really good, took a while to get started but enjoying it so far.

TadlowDogIncident · 02/01/2012 19:39

Lisa Appignanesi "Mad, Bad and Sad: a History of Women and the Mind Doctors". It's really good.

DuchessofMalfi · 02/01/2012 19:38

I've got The Children's Book on my reading pile too. I bought it ages ago, but just haven't got round to reading it yet. I started Wolf Hall ages ago on holiday, but kept getting so many interruptions from the children that I had to give up - couldn't follow the plot - I'm determined to read it, as I did enjoy what I did manage to read Grin.

Abcinthia · 02/01/2012 19:37

I've really enjoyed it so far.

marriednotdead · 02/01/2012 19:37

JW 's obviously, mum was never a midwife Blush

Oneofthechildlessones · 02/01/2012 19:36

What do you think of Wedlock Abcinthia ?

It's quite in depth.

marriednotdead · 02/01/2012 19:35

Have a trilogy, Tales from a Midwife by Jennifer Worth. Mum sent it down with my Christmas pressies and I've found it really interesting as it is based on her personal experiences as a midwife in the 1950's.

Abcinthia · 02/01/2012 19:27

I am currently reading Wedlock: How Georgian Britain's Worst Husband Met His Match by Wendy Moore and The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub

AtYourCervix · 02/01/2012 19:26

I'm reading A Year in the Wild: A riotous novel by James Hendry - bought for 99p in the 12 days of Kindle sale. It's very very funny.

Pekka · 02/01/2012 19:22

The Fry Chronicles by Stephen Fry. Got it as a Christmas present from DH, I am really enjoying it. It's not as funny as I thought it would be, but it is very interesting.

hocuspontas · 02/01/2012 19:20

I've got Great Expectations waiting on the kindle when I finish Book of Secrets (not really my thing but dd3 bought it for me - bless). Am also reading the Inbetweeners yearbook Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2012 19:16

Agree that 'Bluestockings' wasn't as good as it could have been - but I did find it quite interesting compared to some of the crap I read last year!

Oneofthechildlessones · 02/01/2012 19:15

I struggled with The Children's book and gave up near the beginning. I did like it and have it in my to read pile again.

Terpsichore · 02/01/2012 19:07

Just started 'The Children's Book', A. S. Byatt (yes, I know I'm behind the times, I've had it on the 'to read' pile for ages!). Enjoying it a lot so far.

Between Christmas Eve and the 29th Dec I devoured Wolf Hall. A fantastic book. Now I can't wait for the next one, out in May apparently.
