Glad you are enjoying Harry Thompson's book lonelymum,. I read about his death as well, very sad esp seeing as he never smoked but died of lung cancer. Friday's have I got news for you was in his memory this week.

Has anyone read that one about the woman who has been fighting cancer and runs triathlons and things? Sorry, can't remember her name. She sounds amazing.

A couple of years back I read Fatwa, Living With a Death Threat, it was quite unputdownable.

I don't suppose anyone will respond to this, but I am reading Harry Thompson's This Thing of Darkness as recommended by Greenmonsterbean below and I am really enjoying it - over half way through its 600 pages. Just saw today in the Sunday Times that the author died last week aged only 45 and I wanted to say how sad that makes me as he could have had loads more novels of this standard in him. I am thinking of buying it for family this Christmas so, if you think you would like it, I would recommend it to you.

I enjoyed the Frank Skinner book. V funny and he also comes across as being quite sweetly vulnerable.

Recently read Harry Thompson's This thing of darkness which is the life story of Captain Fitzroy and Charles Darwin. Excellent book, if a tad long.

I got bored with the Joanna Lumley one, shame because I really like her.
Piers Morgan one is juicy fun, good for dipping into.

Don't read Laura Blundy - it's an awful book (by Julie Myerson) - totally inept.

Janet Street-Porter's one, Baggage, is a quick, easy read - I'm convinced she dictated it. She's vituperative v. her mother especially.

How about Nigel Slater's Toast? Another celeb who can't forgive his mum and dad, but otherwise a light, fairly jolly read. I didn't like him as much after reading it, but I still like his take on food.

Or John Peel's - just out? I want to read that.

Think the Joanna Lumley one where she uses all the rooms in her house as prompts to tell her life story sounds quite interesting. (And yet its been out for more than a year and I can't remember the title, so obviously am not a great advocate for it...)

Lance Armstrong - read that so I could be sure it was OK to give to DS's friend who was diagnosed with cancer. It really helped him.

Michael J Fox was good too.

Roisin recommended Blue Eyed Son by Nicky Campbell to me and it was very good. Never liked him much before, but after reading it thought he seemd an ok bloke.

Not recntly, but Laura Sage's "Bad Blood" is a very good book.
