(appologies if there is already a thread on this - I couldn't find it)

Anyone applied to do the World Book Night Book Giveaway thingy? still a couple of days to apply.

DH has applied and if he gets given a box of books,I will help him with the giving. I looks like a good selection, we are already trying to work out who should get what.

I got A Fine Balence - my first choice Smile I can't actually remember how I said I'd distribute them Blush but am going to offer them via the PTA - names in a hat if I get more requests than names!

Scootergrrrl · 04/02/2011 15:57

I didn't get chosen Sad

I'll have a copy of the poetry book if you struggle to find homes for them all. I'll paypal you the postage!

Campaspe · 03/02/2011 18:53

I've heard. I have got Carol Ann Duffy's book of poems to give away. I'm really pleased, and looking forward to reading it, but it wasn't my first choice, and I'm a bit concerned I may not be able to find decent homes for 30 copies (I've already promised some to friends and family). Actually feel a bit depressed that some of my friends don't want to try it because it's poetry and they're convinced they won't like it.

Think the scheme is a wonderful idea, and hope some of my friends have participated so I might get a free book!

plusonemore · 02/02/2011 20:11

oooh I like that idea!

ChippyMinton · 02/02/2011 17:37

One of my reading group members has got CJ Samson's Dissolution to give away. She is planning to give them out with instructions to pass it on when finished with, maybe with a slip inside for every reader to sign. Like book-crossing.

Grabaspoon · 01/02/2011 22:21

I just got an email scooter saying I'd been unscusseful.

Scootergrrrl · 01/02/2011 19:26

Do you hear if you've been a failure as well as if you've been chosen? Have heard nothing so far....

plusonemore · 01/02/2011 18:01

Yay! got Kate Atkinson which was first choice. I put that I would be dishing them out to mine and other local netball team players! Not as good as soldiers Blush but didnt they say they were targeting places like that as well?

chocolateshoes · 01/02/2011 17:45

i must be the only one not accepted...feeling very rejected

BelligerentGhoul · 01/02/2011 17:32

I've been accepted! I chose the Pullman so I could give some to pupils at school.

littlerach · 01/02/2011 17:00

I have been selecyed........Reluctant Fundamentalist, not first choice but still a good read.

chocolateshoes · 01/02/2011 16:30

I have failed..... sob

latermater · 01/02/2011 16:05

I got my second choice book - A Fine Balance, instead of Seamus Heaney's poems - so now need to rethink what I am going to do with them. Was planning poetry-themed evening in the village hall. Will now have to be something more general.

chocolateshoes · 01/02/2011 16:00

am feeling rather disappointed as I haven't had mail so I suppose I haven't been chosen.

NL3 · 01/02/2011 10:10

Grabaspoon - there's meant to be a second round of emails this morning so maybe there is still some hope.

Grabaspoon · 01/02/2011 09:47

I had to put who I was going to give them too - It was going to be soldiers in Afghanistan.

Wonder why they extended the deadline - assumed it was because they didn't have enough takers.

thunderbird69 · 01/02/2011 09:37

That's a shame Sad

I am wondering if the givers were just randomly chosen, I saw some comments on FB from people who had been picked, saying that they were now thinking about who they were going to give them to. I don't see why they would have been picked if they hadn't already come up with an idea?!

Grabaspoon · 01/02/2011 09:26

Didn't get it :( Thought I had a unique group of people to give it to but obviously not :(

thunderbird69 · 01/02/2011 07:35

I have just found out that I have been picked as a giver Smile

I am going to be getting 48 copes of All Quiet on the Western Front to give to my son's school (not sure I will actually be doing on the Saturday night!)

chocolateshoes · 31/01/2011 21:14

ah....I was too slow. Thanks.

NL3 · 31/01/2011 21:05

WBN took the book collection page down when they realised everybody was filling in their details and getting confirmation emails. They said they would reinstate the page when the official emails have been sent out.

chocolateshoes · 31/01/2011 21:02

am a bit annoyed they extended it twice if I| don't get to do it. Biut have a bad feeling I won't...

plusonemore · 31/01/2011 20:53

no, I couldn't either. And I missed out on the room freebee on here Envy

chocolateshoes · 31/01/2011 20:51
