Hello fellow Pokemon go players! Currently obsessed after not playing for a little while. For one of the tasks I need to make a new friend but I don’t know anyone else IRL who plays.. would anyone be happy to help me knock this one off the list please?

thirdfiddle · 11/05/2024 11:30

Yes, you can choose which attack to switch if you have two.

I've not tried battling with Frustration, i've always waited for an event to switch it like you say. There may be circumstances where it's actually useful? Maybe on a normal type so it's got attack bonus. Or if it's lower energy than any of a pokemon's normal attacks, so you can use it to try to tempt out shields.

The stardust situation balances out eventually, once you have your main teams powered up to the level where candy is the problem. Particularly ML which is expensive in stardust.

AlmostLegendary · 11/05/2024 10:29

If you've got 2 attacks already does it let you choose which one to get rid of when you use the TM?

I've been storing up charged TMs for the next event where you can use them on shadow Pokémon, so have got quite a few, but also quite a few shadows to use them on! Is there any benefit to keeping frustration and adding a second attack, or am I better off just waiting?

I'm still at a stage where I never quite have enough stardust for what I want to do. I'm trying to win in battle league to get more stardust, but then having to use loads to get Pokémon that can win in battle league.

thirdfiddle · 11/05/2024 10:09

With new attacks and using charged TMs, what order do you do things in? Do you get a new attack and see if it's useful first, or make sure they've already got the best attack and then teach them a second one?

Unless I want to use it in the meantime, may as well wait and see if either of the two you get is one you want to keep. On the other hand if you play a bit of battle league, charged TM's aren't exactly a scarce resource...

Only thing is not to accidentally take off an special event/elite charged TM attack that you're going to want to put on again later. I'm keeping roar of time on my good dialga even though it's currently of limited use that way as I think it's not available to TM.

I wonder how many of us got into it for our DC and they lost interest but we didn't.

This is definitely me too, would love it if DS would do raids and parties with me a bit more frequently!

I'm the weird player who wanted to relive my childhood. My brother and I had the original GameBoy games. His was red and mine was yellow and as teens we had our parents drive us 80 miles to a special event where we queued up for ages and they installed Mew on our games. 😁

My DC did play some of the later games and joined PoGo with me at first but both have since lost interest so I understand that side of things, but it was me pushing them to play it with me. 🙈🤣

That would be me too. 2nd child has popped up occasionally in game recently but not so far as coming on a raid with DH and me, parents are soooo embarrassing.

"I wonder how many of us got into it for our DC and they lost interest but we didn't."

That would be me. I did manage to get him back to the game as an occasional player. He has the knowledge and my friend and I have the big beasts so between the three of us we make the basis of a raid team. I stopped playing for three years due to various bereavements but it gets me walking so I try to play every day.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/04/2024 06:24

I wish I could but DH is away this weekend and I have to look after the kids. Otherwise, I totally would. I really like riding to the end of lines. Plus riding to the end of the line to meet another PoGo player would be especially awesome.

@ISaySteadyOn how desperate are you for a tauros? I have 21 and ds has 26 so plenty to spare if you were prepared to head my way. Depends how much you want one I guess…?
Actually ds will be in London this weekend but he doesn’t really play any more and probably wouldn’t be impressed or compelled to seek you out for a trade even if I suggested it. However I will be dropping him at the station if you fancied a trip to the end of the Elizabeth line beyond zone 9…

ISaySteadyOn · 23/04/2024 11:17

I didn't think it was. I just think it's amazing you got 4.

I am rather enjoying this return to Kanto bit. Now if only they would put a Tauros in it.

I’ve got 6 and an evolved 98% volcarona. So technically 7. I hatch a lot of eggs. I prioritise purchasing incubators and manage to ‘walk’ while stuck in slow traffic and the 20mph zones around the office. I can’t actually walk very far in reality due to mobility issues 😂

AlmostLegendary · 23/04/2024 11:43

I have wasted loads of pineap berries on zorua when I've thought I was catching whatever I had as my buddy, then on the rare occasions it's the real thing I don't use a berry as I'm expecting another zorua!

Oops that wasn't supposed to be a stealth larvesta brag. Just hatched lots of eggs I guess. I walk to work and wander about when waiting for kids at clubs. Actually I have 5 and all of them mediocre.

If it’s a legendary you might want to use rare candy to help power it up.

If you have some walking planned it can be worth using a puffin on your buddy as it halves the distance for a candy.

Definitely worth berry dumping in gyms.

And definitely wait for a good larvesta to power up.

When there’s a community day or you’re catching something more rare use a pinap berry to double the candy you get for catching. Silver pinap gives that too.

Tarkan · 23/04/2024 07:23

I have 2 Larvesta but according to my Pokédex I've had 3 so I must have traded in one with bad IV. The two I still have were both hatched last year, one in June and one in September.

ISaySteadyOn · 23/04/2024 06:18

You have four Larvesta?! How did you manage that?

I only have 1.

OP posts:
thirdfiddle · 23/04/2024 00:28

I've been trying putting them in gyms and feeding them berries, as that's supposed to make them drop candy, but not got many that way. It's probably quicker having them as a buddy and that's still pretty slow! You do get stardust from the gym berries and that is often my limiting factor in powering up.

Me too! I think i have all 4 of my larvesta in assorted gyms at the moment. It's slow, but it's somewhere to dump excess berries. 300 to go... Anyone evolved one & can tell me if it's worth the effort? Is it strong or anything? Wondering whether to wait for a 3* to walk, or just walk and evolve any old one for the pokedex.

I'm finding now I'm a bit further along I'm no longer short of stardust but rare candy and particularly triangle candies are still a limiting factor.

thirdfiddle · 23/04/2024 00:16

Picking 1km walking pokemon to power up first is handy! My team was extremely gyarados powered when I started - such a good pokemon, it can have water attacks or dragon attacks or dark attacks. And at 1km (1/2 km when excited) it's quick to pick up a bucket of candy and refill mega energy once you've got the mega.

If you cba to install and link to Pokemon Home, you can pick up hundreds of meltans and power up a melmetal. Google for how to guides.

Another thing that's useful with candy is megas when you get them. You keep mega-evolving it until it has a max mega level and then you get +2 candy for any pokemon of the same type you catch, and a much higher chance of XL (triangle) candy too. And + candy for any 5* raid boss doesn't need to match type.

When you've found your local raiders or maybe you already have some megas from remote passes :)

So e.g. wander around with a mega dragon type on bagon community day and a few pinap berries and you get tonnes of candy.

Mainly the Pokémon which have had community days, or a spotlight hour, have ended up being my strongest, just because they're the ones I have enough candy to power up and evolve.

Hi I want to power up my top Pokemon but I just don't have enough candies and I never see any in the wild to catch. I just want to make sure I'm not missing a trick. You can have them as your buddy and earn candies that way, through catching them in the wild and you can use a yellow raspberry which increases how many candies you get. Is there any other way? Oh and also using rare candies.

Yep that's about it, except that they're pineapples not yellow raspberries Grin.

Other ways to get candy are from raids of that type or hatching eggs.

Knotaknitter · 16/04/2024 08:33

@iwantsunshine1 Do you have the Campfire app? Not just the little thing you click on screen but the actual app? It will suggest local groups based on your location. You may find that there is a group in your area that you didn't know about. Failing that it's community day on Saturday, if you go to a local park you might be able to spot groups of people playing. You can ask them how the local community is organised (Discord, Campfire, Messenger, Whatsapp) and join later.

iwantsunshine1 · 15/04/2024 18:19

@gillybean2 what is the go raid party app please and how does it work alongside the normal app?

iwantsunshine1 · 15/04/2024 18:17

I don't know anyone who plays Pokemon go, is there anyway to trade or do raids without having to get a remote pass? Also can't do party's which is part of my tasks, feel like I'm missing out
