Definitely get the switch rather than the lite so you can play together! Games I enjoy (and my kids) are animal crossing, super smash bros, Zelda BOTW, sonic racing, Mario party, Mario 3D land/bowsers fury but the best is Luigis mansion 3. You can’t really go wrong with Mario games tbh.

Definitely get the full size switch then you can play games together. Pretty much all the marios are fun and pikmin, i play Zelda on mine (love it) ds is 7 and will use mine or my husbands he doesn't have his own yet

Mario Kart excellent also

The Switch is brilliant...I bought Luigis Mansion 3 for my kids Christmas and they haven't really played it much but I am
loving it! It's such a fun game, and I actually find it really relaxing to play for a bit every day. Once I'm finished it I'm going to get myself Mario Odyssey.

As a family with a 6yr old we have most enjoyed: Mario Kart 8, Mario Bros U, Minecraft, Yoshi's Crafted World and the Untitled Goose Game. We have high hopes for Mario Odyssey (our next pick) too.
Snipperclips is also very good but will be better when the child is older as some levels are quite precise or non-obvious later on.
Ben 10 and Ugly Dolls have both been played through but are much shorter and generally lower quality/repetitive/glitchy compared to the "proper" Mario ones. We will probably not bother with any more "kids" games in future.
Adults also play 2 Point Hospital and Animal Crossing, but Minecraft is much more satisfying than Animal Crossing if you want to collect resources on an island and then build a base, ime. And also has zombies and lava.

I wouldn’t buy the lite version because I would definitely want the ability to connect to the tv. My 10 year old son a Nintendo and we think it is great. We don’t do anything online and he plays games on his own or with us. We play Mario Party, Let’s Sing and Mario Kart as a family (great fun and really easy) and he plays Animal Crossing, Minecraft and others alone or with my husband or other daughter. It can be great fun and group games really need to go on the tv. I think lite would be very solitary.

Oh and we all play mario kart. It can be up to 4 players. So it's me, DH, both DDs racing our karts. It's very fun.

I play animal crossing on the same island as my 9yo DD. We don't have a online membership so she can't play online with friends. I just don't think it's worth the money. However, if your DD friends come to your house for a playdate (in the future), then they can play local online games if they want to.

Whether it's worth the monthy subscription is up to you.

Animal crossing! Bought it for my child and I now play it constantly! I have to play on her account when it comes to animal crossing though as you can only have one main character that moves the game forward.

All the marios are good too

I would recommend getting a regular switch which can be plugged into the TV, it means you can play multiplayer on games such as mario kart which are fun for everyone! To play with friends you either need to be close by (which isn't possible at the moment), or you have to buy a Nintendo online subscription which allows you to play over the internet with friends (be aware though, some games don't have much control about who you play with, so could be random people). All games do work fine on their own as well, so you don't need to go online at all.

I really like animal crossing, but if you both wanted to play you need a switch an island or share one island which can be tricky, but if your DD isn't interested in it I would recommend you play! It depends what kind of games you like, plenty of platform games such as mario, crash bandicoot etc, but also fitness and role play games. They do tend to be more expensive than some others, but you can go on the online store and download older or lesser known games for a reasonable price.

I love ring fit too, I have never enjoyed exercise more!

John Lewis and Argos both seem to be out of stock of the full size Switch, but I still think you should hold out for one of them, they’re so much more versatile than the Lites.

I love Ring Fit. Recommendations from other family members are that Zelda Breath of the Wild is beautiful. Luigi’s Mansion is fun for all ages. Animal Crossing New Horizons is heartwarming. Bayonetta and Dark Souls are games for dedicated adult gamers.

I wouldn’t recommend buying one from Game, we bought one last Christmas and about 10 months later one of the joy cons packed up. Their customer service was appalling. We had a similar issue the year before and curry’s were excellent

The switch is great, definitely worth the extra money than the light. We have two switches in our house and the are great. You can connect them to the tv with a hdmi cable and it’s so simple, my 8 year old can connect it all up herself. We have a normal switch and a fornite switch, the only difference is the design and it comes with the fornite game and some kind of points for the game. Wouldn’t waste the extra money, get the normal switch.

I bought one from Very and it's been fine. Wasn't used

Nintendo announced this beauty of a limited edition console this morning.

Doesn't do anything different to any other switch, but its pretty.

Whatever you do, don't buy from Very. Their aftercare for gaming products is notoriously poor.

They also have form for reselling returned consoles as new.

A specialist games retailer (Game) or Smyths toys is a better option.

Or indeed Nintendo has their own online store and often send out nice extras too - keyrings and cleaning cases etc!
