Animal Crossing Newbie- what do I need to know?

Ok just bought this for 'the kids' Wink, what do I need to know, never played before.....
Any starters tips??

@Taddda You did well getting bamboo island, it's quite rare and you need bamboo for some of the recipes. DD managed to get it and it was a real struggle to get her to bring anything back! She wants to keep everything in her pockets and keeps releasing fish rather than selling it. She drives me barmy!

Your overtaking me @ashtyler ! (I've only got apples on my island atm Confused...) I visited another island using my nook miles and got some bamboo shoots to plant tho..

I'm building my houses and invited a resident, think they'll be arriving today...having a clean up ready for them..Grin

I'm going to have to sign up to get a dodo code, will do it in the week and share with you?

Yabbaa: yes the shop and museum are up and running. First new resident moved in this morning 😁

I'm letting the kids have a go, then I need to visit some other islands to get different fruit. I only have cherries and coconuts(and some baby pear trees 🌳)

How does the visiting others people's islands work? Do we take our stuff to swap?

@ashtyler the gold nuggets have now blessed me 🤗...two from a nook miles ticket visit last night....and I've got my shop, now bridge building!

Yes, when Tom asks you to place the plots for 3 new houses and furnish them, he realises you need the flowers on the cliffs for one of them so he gives you the recipe then

Redeeming and using nook miles tickets, they're fantastic for gathering resources as you only visit the island once so you can clear it out, it's also how you find new villagers, if you have a house available then they will appear, talk to them once, if you talk to them twice you can then invite them to live on your island, but if you don't like that particular villager, just ignore them and try again next time

Hello, I've been playing about 2 weeks now, I'm now slowly working my way to a 3* rating so I can get the terrain tools (and KK Slider Wink)

Daisy-mae sells turnips on Sunday mornings, I believe you need to have the shop before she will come to you're island. Also if you have friends check the price on their island as the prices differ, then you can sell at nooks cranny (but not on Sundays) their turnip prices change at midday but the general rule is buy for less than 100 bells and sell for profit, friends help as again they might have better prices than your island

Where do you get turnips from?
I noticed in the shop it says about turnips.

Also I have been playing a month and only just realised you can sell multiple items at once in the shop?
Can not believe I have been selling singular items and also having blathers assess each fossil individually Blush

Is there anything else I should be hoarding for a task coming up?

Wood from the trees - you can collect if once a day from each tree. You need quite a lot of the different types, along with the iron ore and some rocks, clay etc from the rocks.

And branches (from shaking the trees) will still come in handy for tools and whatnot.

Just managed (finally!) to get all the iron ore for the shop! Is there anything else I should be hoarding for a task coming up?

I'm selling all my duplicate bugs/fish etc but should I keep hold of any in particular?

Also Tom's now said I can change my look , where do I go to do that?

No, that destroys the rock (they respawn elsewhere later).

Are you getting thrown backwards when you hit it? You need to dig a hole behind you and to the side so you can't get thrown back, then you can keep hitting the rock.

@taddda yes I avoided saying the right arrow as I figured that would be the confusion Grin.
Go and visit some other islands with Tom Nook tickets and hit the rocks there too. Dig a hole behind you and hit quickly and you can get 7 (or maybe 8?) hits per stone. And don’t eat fruit before you hit or you destroy the stone.
