Animal Crossing Newbie- what do I need to know?

Ok just bought this for 'the kids' Wink, what do I need to know, never played before.....

I've been playing for about a week now and have just learned so much through this thred! Still trying to get the iron for the shop, one more to go! Dying to get it tonight so my shop can open tomorrow.
@playdoughbum id love to visit. I have pears and coconuts if you want to visit me and trade. Never been to another island except using nook miles ticket though! I'll open my gates and share dodo code shortly :)

To visit someone's island they have to share their Dodo code or you have to be friends with them. When I'm selling/buying Turnips I use the following website:
