My Gollum now also has stone edge and mud slap. Which others should I change?

I want WhatToDoAboutThis2017 to write a Pokémon go encyclopaedia!

That's a good idea, maybe I should! Make some money to fuel my Pokemon coin buying habit Grin

Ruhrpott · 13/08/2017 10:58

Thanks to this thread I now have one gyarados with hydropump and dragon tail
And one with outrage and dragon tail and used some of my charged and fast tms (I had 12 of each!)

I bought the small special boxes as I don't use the extra stuff in the larger ones. All I want out of it are the raid passes. There have been a couple of days where I've struggled to find a local legendary raid at all, never mind one where we can get people to it, so I don't use as many as I think I do. There was one day where I did four legendary raids but I was all Pokemonned out by the end of that one.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 13/08/2017 09:45

You're welcome Smile

Good luck with Zapdos!

I have bought at least 5 ultra boxes now; the raid passes alone are worth it as I do several legendary raids each day.

PokemonGo · 13/08/2017 09:40

Thanks for the info What. It's really helpful. I'll save my TMs for something else.

I'm hoping to try for a zapdos today. I'm going into my nearest big town and am prepared to use Facebook and dischord.... if you can't beat them then join them

I may even spend real money too. ShockShockShock. I've resisted and resisted but I've only 949 coins at the moment so it makes a lot more sense to top that up so i can buy the 980 special box.....

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 13/08/2017 09:26

(^ for Rhydon that is!)

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 13/08/2017 09:25

Mud Slap/Stone Edge is the best move combo possible for gym attack, so that's great Smile

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 13/08/2017 09:24

PokemonGo No worries Smile

Double rock Golems are brilliant; I recently used a TM to make my strongest Golem double rock.

Yes, double ice Piloswines will be good against Zapdos, same with double ice Jynx.

Zapdos' weaknesses are ice and rock, so definitely use your double rock Golems too.

If you have an Articuno, though, don't use that as Zapdos is strong against flying.

(As an aside, I don't power up Piloswines. My strongest is 1687 not powered up and I find that works just fine as they very rarely get used. They have an amazing evolution to Mamoswine in Gen 4 though, which will be an absolute beast.)

PokemonGo · 13/08/2017 09:16

My other top rydon has mud slap as it's quick charge.

PokemonGo · 13/08/2017 09:14

Doh, lucky I asked Blush. The other one is rock and stone so it would have been a waste of a TM and I don't have many. My two top Golams have double rock so I'll use them. I've also two good piloswine with double ice including avalance. I read on Reddit they were good for zapdas?? Is that right. They aren't the very stongest IV but nearly. They are not both maxed out but not far off....

PokemonGo I personally hold off on using TMs on Rhydons because TMs are so rare and Rhydon evolves into Rhyperior in Gen 4, so its moves will change then anyway.

However, you can't get a double rock Rhydon - the only two fast moves available are Mud Slap (ground) and Rock Smash (fighting).

What moves does your other Rhydon have?

PokemonGo · 13/08/2017 08:48

Sorry, forgot to say thank you 😁😊

PokemonGo · 13/08/2017 08:47

I have another question.

I've a fast TM and a charged TM. Should I use the fast TM on this rydon. He has the best appraisal with attack as his strongest feature.

I'd hope for another Rock move? Is that right.

I have another double rock, strongest iv rydon and two double rock, strongest iv golams - all with attack as their strongest feature. And all maxed out with their charge move as STONE EDGE . Would investing the fast TM mean be wasteful as I've already got powerful rock types. Iyswim I do like my rydon though- they power through almost anything.

I'm think they will be good if I get to try a zapdos.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 13/08/2017 08:45

Mrsmomo Yes, although Earthquake isn't the best charge move for Steelix, I wouldn't use a TM to change it unless you have a lot spare (which you said you don't).

Definitely save your first charge TM for your Gyarados Smile Assuming of course it's high CP and high IVs!

The higher the level raid you do, the more chance you have of getting TMs and rare candies. So Legendaries are definitely the best in terms of rewards and XP; I've had 3 charge and 1 fast TM (along with revives and rare candies) before.

Mrsmomo · 13/08/2017 08:34

Great advice!!!!! The steelix is earthquake, I don't have a TM so I guess I will have to get in on some raids. I am learning sooooo much ;)

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 13/08/2017 00:14

So another question, I use a steelix to battle but it never seems to unleash anything, like my garados does twister, is this right?

Every Pokemon has a charge attack, so your Steelix will have one that when you use (when the bar is powered up fully, you press and hold to release it) will unleash a lot of damage.

What does it say Steelix' charge attack is? (Charge attack is the second move.)

The best charge move for Steelix is Heavy Slam (Iron Tail is the best fast move).

Steel is more of a defensive type, so steel is resistant to a lot of attacks, but they don't deal extra damage to many. Hence I haven't powered up my Steelix and rarely use it.

As for your Gyarados, Twister is a legacy move that is no longer obtainable, and it is the worst move Gyarados could have.

If you have a charge TM and your Gyarados is high IVs/high CPs, I would recommend using it to try to get Outrage or Hydro Pump (Outrage is good for gym Defence, Hydro Pump is good for gym attack. However if you're putting it against water and dragon Pokemon, you want it to have Outrage as that's better for gym attack in that case. Dragontail is the best fast move for Gyarados).

Mrsmomo · 12/08/2017 23:49

Well that explains why my golem just got minced lol.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/08/2017 23:26

So is earthquake a ground move then?

Yes, Earthquake is a ground move, and the most powerful ground move.

Ground is super effective against electric, fire, poison, rock and steel, however it is weak to flying (and grass and bug), hence why you shouldn't use it against Charizard.

You can tell what type the moves are by the little symbols next to them; check out the handy chart I've added as a picture Smile

Great info. So is earthquake a ground move then?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/08/2017 22:55

they're pretty useless for anything other than a dex filler aren't they? Or is it worth investing stardust and candies in to him? Are they ever good in gyms/defending/fighting?

You're right; they're pretty useless. I wouldn't invest any stardust or candies in them; it would just be a waste. I have never used mine to fight or defend.

Am I right in thinking skamory will evolve in a future gen?

Nope; Skarmory never evolves.

DH says there are a couple of charizards holding local gyms - what does anyone reckon I should use to kick It's ass?

Charizard is fire/flying, so your best bet is rock - it's super effective against both fire and flying.

High CP Pokemon like Golem or Rhydon that have Stone Edge are the best to use, but don't use either Pokemon if they have ground moves - you need rock.

Water and electric are effective too, so any high CP Pokemon that have water or electric moves should be your go-to after rock.

Mrsmomo · 12/08/2017 18:34

DrTwo I am both impressed and very jealous that you can do gyms from your sofa !!!!!! (Composes a quick begging e mail to niantic.......)

Mrsmomo · 12/08/2017 18:33

Ive been house cleaning today so have not yet got out for my pokestop. Planning to head out soon as it's my day 7. Might get to do a gym. DH says there are a couple of charizards holding local gyms - what does anyone reckon I should use to kick
