Yeah, I know I'm scraping the barrel now... :o But at least you get an earworm.

Still just keeping up the streaks, but yesterday I HATCHED A SNORLAX. That's No2, and I have 40 Snorlax candy.

I get it re grinding up Pikachus, it just feels wrong. I do it though, 'cos I'm heartless. Wink

It's double, triple pretty much everything. But only until around midnight.

GavelRavel · 25/07/2017 17:20

thanks Cake! Great explanation.

I also never used to bother much with gyms but looking forward to trying.

What is going on with the current event?

Dragonflycushion · 25/07/2017 17:14

How middle class is my pokemoning! Sitting in a park outside a museum drinking m and s g&t from a can and eating strawberries.Grin
Have only had a banana today so much more 'relaxed' than I should be.
Aim is a bit squiffy tbh

Soubriquet · 25/07/2017 17:01

Lovely explanation cake Smile

Right gavel I will try and lay out the differences in the gym system now without rambling too much but I'm not great at summing things up concisely, apologies in advance Blush

Since the gym update:

  • Each gym can hold up to 6 Pokémon (but can only add 1 Pokémon per trainer)
  • only one of each type of Pokémon can be added to each gym (e.g. One dragonite, one blissey, one snorlax etc)
  • you can now spin gyms like pokestops, either using the symbol in the bottom right or top left of the screen from the main gym screen
  • Pokémon in gyms will have hearts above them that represent their motivation. You can feed berries to Pokémon if they are your team to refill the hearts and keep them in the gym longer. The emptier the hearts are, the easier they are to beat. Motivation drops over time or once a trainer/group defeats the Pokémon in a battle.
  • above the spinny symbol on the bottom right hand side of the screen is another symbol. If it is your team's gym and there is space you can use this to add a Pokémon, if the gym belongs to another team you can use it to battle. Battling gyms is much easier now which some people love and some people hate.
  • Any Pokémon you put in a gym will get a coin for every ten minutes they stay in there defending (I think that's the current system, it's changed a few times). You will only get the coins when the Pokémon returns to you and it's capped at a max of 50 coins per day per trainer (so even if you had multiple Pokémon return at the same time that had all been defending for 24hrs plus, you would only get 50 coins).

There's also raid battles:

  • raids come in 5 levels (with the 5th level being legendaries) with different raid bosses for each level.
  • levels are represented by the heads underneath each raid on the raid screen
  • level 1 raids are doable easily on your own and at your level, I would imagine you'd be fine with most level 2 raids too. Above that you'll need to team up with other trainers to help and when you get to level 5 I have only done those so far with the full 20 team members possible.
  • If you succeed fighting a raid boss then you get a chance to catch them using special raid balls that you get at the end of the fight.
  • golden raspberries are often given as a prize at the end of raid battles (along with revives, Xp, fast/charged TMs and rare candy - more on this in a sec). These can be used at any time when catching Pokémon but it's worth saving them to use on the more challenging raid bosses (especially legendaries!).
  • the rare candies can be used on any Pokémon but again, worth saving them for legendaries as they're hard to catch and, even if you did catch lots to up your candy, can't be transferred so the only way to get candy is to catch them and eventually fill your Pokémon storage or walk them as a buddy (I read somewhere they are 20k buddies but haven't checked).

I think that's everything. I know it sounds like a lot but I actually find it much simpler and more fun! I never used to bother with the gyms whereas I do a couple a day with my DS now!

TrashPanda · 25/07/2017 15:34

I am in a tiny hamlet in the middle of France, the closest Pokestop is miles away and not seen a gym. I have an ancient iPhone that won't support Pokemon. DP has grudgingly put it onto his phone but there's nothing to catch here.

Soubriquet · 25/07/2017 15:08

I got my dragonite!! Very happy

Also got enough candies to evolve my onyx. Just need special item.

So that's three items I need to evolve onyx, polywhirl and seadra.

Waiting not so patiently. My 7 day streak again tomorrow. If I get another sun stone, I'm going to cry

Hi all, i'm back to playing Pokemon Go after a few months break, level 30 when I stopped. Could someone please summarise what has changed and what the hell I do with gyms now? thanks

cottonwool125 · 25/07/2017 14:28

Sitting on my hands to save my one and only lucky egg for Friday night before the event finishes, and not to use it now- even though I have 2 or 3 new evolutions to do for new 'mon Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 25/07/2017 13:50

Yup, lots of research otherwise they'll be wasted!

Soubriquet · 25/07/2017 13:49

So I'm going to have to do research in the best moves on Pokemon now aren't I?Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 25/07/2017 13:47

Which do you think is best to use them on?
Any Pokemon whose moves you're not happy with.

Cakedoesntjudge · 25/07/2017 13:29

I've been quite enjoying this weekend - been out loads despite the rain and managed to catch both the legendaries on Sunday, hit level 29 yesterday and got lots of new evolves. Finally got my first dragonite, tyranitar, rhydon and gengar (I realise I'm miles behind!) Felt v sorry for DS though who's phone glitched at all 3 legendary raids we did on Sunday - so he beat the battle but couldn't add golden raspberries or throw the ball. Glitch had fixed itself by yesterday but I'm sure the catch rate was higher Sunday because couldn't catch any yesterday.

Boyfriend is also very upset as he is the stronger trainer of the group of 6 we play with and so far it is only him and DS yet to catch one!

Simultaneously happy and annoyed that the event has been extended - stayed out late and bought extra incubators last night so that we could get as many in to hatch before 1am as possible. Would have had an earlier night if I'd known!

To the PP who asked what pokemon to use the fast/charge TMs on - download an app like IV go and it will tell you which of your Pokémon have the best moves already and which could do with the upgrade.

Soubriquet · 25/07/2017 13:16

I've got three fast tm and two power tm

Which do you think is best to use them on?

Dillite2 · 25/07/2017 11:48

I just had a mini lucky egg session which took me into the level 34 and gave me 99k xp. Would have been more had I not received a phone call.

This morning I turned my app on only to see a 57k lugia at the other end of the town. At 6am! Needless to say I did not even attempt to go there to catch it.

Soubriquet · 25/07/2017 11:47

Took down a legendary gym....but the bastard ran away SadSad

I did get this though and a pichu in a hat

Natsku · 25/07/2017 11:41

I hatched my first ever onyx from a 5k egg so pretty happy now! Still lacking eggs but its just too cold and miserable to go bike to the pokestops to try and get more eggs.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 25/07/2017 11:12

One of the things that I like about the pogo plus is that you can set the pokestops/ pokemon alerts on and off, so if I'm trying to stock up on balls, setting it to pokestop only and doing a few laps of the woods helps a lot.

I managed to get the 4 yo out on his bike to help with some Flaafy mileage while it's reduced. A candy per 1.7k is so much better than 5. 20 candies down, 80 to go Confused

A shame gymnastics has broken up for the summer though. Sitting and swishing a pokestop for an hour has its uses!

RudeDog · 25/07/2017 11:01

To make up the disappointment of yesterday's egg, I just hatched this little fella - I luves him

RueDeWakening · 25/07/2017 09:54

Icould that's an amazing tip, thank you! Obviously I did my 2 lucky eggs last night, the old fashioned way, but it'll help for next time if I remember Grin

cottonwool125 · 25/07/2017 09:27

Igneococcus is that where you live?! I'd say giving up a legendary is worth it for that view every day Grin

I've timed my week off perfectly with this event! Going into the city centre today to walk some eggs off and hit as many pokestops as possible.

Caught my first Hitmonlee or it might have been hitmonchan this morning too. 168 in the dex which I know is a bit pathetic. Hoping to hit 200 or as close as possible by the end of the summer Smile

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 25/07/2017 09:22

Yes, my balls have decreased dramatically too. On Saturday I had 125 great balls... I now have 7. And no poke balls Shock

jennielou75 · 25/07/2017 09:05

Still getting extras here!

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 25/07/2017 09:02

I've got too few balls Grin
