Despite only really playing at the weekend due to working I'm now 180k through Level 31. Today I cheated somewhat. The M25 was stationary, so I opened the app and left it on. I had 8 eggs cooking and between junctions 18 and 22 managed to hatch 7 of them. Mantine, 2x Exegcute, Krabby, Eevee, Togepi and Magby.

Congrats Abbey on reaching Level 30, and commiserations Spammy on not being able to log in.

Is it possible for people to feed their pokemon in a gym while you're battling?

Definitely! DH and I did it today while they were trying to kick us out. They didn't succeed and decided to give up Grin

Also, can pokemon can be added to the gym during a battle?

Yes, it can.

Lotsofplans · 25/06/2017 00:20

I've just found this thread! Great to see everyone's having fun with the updated system.

I've done one raid and failed miserably!

But I have 5 pokemon in gyms (one just returned). I wondered why I didn't get any coins, but it sounds as though they've limited coins to 50 per day. I've already had 50 today.

I have a couple of questions about gym battles. Is it possible for people to feed their pokemon in a gym while you're battling? That's what seemed to happen to me. One minute the Blissey was nearly defeated, someone stopped, then walked on and suddenly it was back to full power - so unfair!

Also, can pokemon can be added to the gym during a battle? I mean in the pause between fights as you have to defeat each one 4 or 5 times? I'm sure another one appeared in the gym. But it may have been my phone playing up - it keeps crashing

We have a rubbish gyaradas that we power up. We caught him in the wild and we have grown fond of him, hence the powering up.

Confused But you must be wasting so much stardust? And stardust is quite rare.

PokemonGo I don't think it was a penalty specifically for over 3000CP, it was more that you gained more prestige by attacking with a lower CP Pokemon.

So if you had a 2000 and a 1200 Pokemon, you'd get more prestige for the 1200 one.

I would have powered up over 3000 before and would now if I felt the Pokemon was worth it. With some Pokemon, powering them up won't bring too much gain.

Like I have a 1627 CP Jolteon that I could power up to 2182 for my level, but there would be no point because it is a great attacker that wouldn't get much better by powering up and wasting 59,000 stardust on it, if you know what I mean?

So it really is important to make sure you're powering up the right Pokemon Smile

PokemonGo · 24/06/2017 23:31

With the old style gyms you used to get a penalty if you tried prestiging friendly gyms with Pokémon over 3000. It knocked 500 points off how much you could prestige the gym per round. This meant I kept a lot of my big 'mons just below 3000 CP. I guess there is no reason that I can't fully power them up now?

Is this right?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 23:25

Yeah, I suspect they will settle down Smile

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 24/06/2017 23:23

The gyms will probably settle down mid-week when the novelty wears off and people are distracted by that real life thing Wink

RudeDog · 24/06/2017 23:02

I actually got into a gym!

Drove home and had already been chucked out in those 10 minutes Sad

DameDeDoubtance · 24/06/2017 22:58

Loving all the extra coinage, bloody epic! Evolved another Gyarados today, named it Magicarp (dd names the 'mon)

Raids going off all around but we only had a pop at one when our train turned up.

Natsku · 24/06/2017 22:10

Wish I hadn't chucked away so many potions before this update!

Natsku · 24/06/2017 22:09

My snorlax came home with 33 coins :)

He was hoping other people would join in but they didn't so he gave up.

Once he's in the battle, nobody else can join in the battle with him.

He has to wait for other players to join before the battle (once he clicks battle there's 120 seconds for others to join) or else he will be on his own.

WooWooSister · 24/06/2017 20:53

Thanks all. That makes it clearer. Yy DS didn't think he'd be able to take a level 3 down on his own. He was hoping other people would join in but they didn't so he gave up.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 20:46

the precise moves your Pokémon knows seem far more important

Oh yes definitely; moves are absolutely key.

PickAChew · 24/06/2017 20:34

Level 3 was definitely just beyond 2 of us, though we might have managed it with more of the more effective Pokémon at higher levels.

Looking at what's been said about the code for legendaries, they might be useful for niche skills for raids because the precise moves your Pokémon knows seem far more important when taking down a boss than even your average blissey.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 19:59

WooWooSister Level 3 battles aren't for solo players. Level 1 is for solo players, but you might be able to get away with Level 3 on your own also.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 19:57

A tip: if you're not able to beat a raid boss after a couple of attempts with the people there, give up until other people join, because you won't beat it with the people you have and will just waste potions.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 19:55

Does the battle last for an hour or just until the boss is beaten?

You can have several different battles going at all times during that hour. Once your particular group has beaten it, that's it, it's beaten, however long it takes.

So if it takes you ten minutes, there's still another 50 minutes for other people to come up and try to beat and catch it too.

WooWooSister · 24/06/2017 19:53

DS went to feed his pokemon in the gym and there was a raid. 3 angry faces and no-one else there but him. After being beaten for the second time, he decided to come home. Does the battle last for an hour or just until the boss is beaten?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 19:50

No worries Smile I don't want to change how you play your game or anything, I just like to help if I can Smile

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 24/06/2017 19:49

Thanks for the explaination!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 19:42

inniu It's a magikarp.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 24/06/2017 19:40

PsammeadPaintedTheLion There's a hidden level that the game doesn't tell you what it is.

When you power up, you power up in half level increments. Important level milestones are 20 (it's the level cap for eggs so you can't hatch higher than level 20) and 30 (beyond level 30 powering up only improves by half as much as before).

So by saying Level 20, what I'm saying is it's 2/3rds of the way to the highest level you can reach before you start getting significantly lower returns by powering up.

Perfect score IVs only come out of eggs, so you're never gonna get a Pokemon higher than Level 20 with the kind of appraisal ratings you get out of eggs and now raids.

cottonwool125 · 24/06/2017 19:39

I put my first Pokemon in a gym today, he was in for just over 5 hours and returned with 30 coins. Wish there were more gyms around where I live, the only one in my small town is about a mile and a half away, which I suppose isn't too far but definitely not accessible from my sofa Wink
